| | Posted: | | | | Good luck, Pete! Just think of it this way: this whole surgery thing is giving you the ultimate excuse to watch as much horror as you can chew! Especially in view of the extensive recovery time following a meniscus operation. Meniscus operations are fairly common among football players (or soccer players, as you Americans prefer to call them). As the 1970's great Dutch football star Johan Cruyff usually puts it in his own inimitable way: "Every disadvantage comes with its advantage".  |

| | Posted: | | | | Good morning everyone. Well here we are... today is the day. I am up bright and early getting ready to head up to the hospital to get my leg operated on.
It's funny... I spent the last week and a half so worried about this I could hardly function. But now that the time is here I am not feeling that bad at all. Sure I am a little nervous.... but I don't feel scared to death like I was earlier this week. | | | | Pete |

| | Posted: | | | | Yay home now! Everything went smoothly it appears that the tear was a significant one. They got me on this very cool (sorry for the pun) ice pack system... yes I said system! There is ice water inside a cooler which is plugged into the wall. From the cooler comes a blue tubing that hooks to a blue wrap around my knee. Then the ice water circulates inside the wrap around my knee. Here is a picture I just took of the system.  | | | | Pete |

| | Posted: | | | | I was kinda out of it when it was explained to me so will have to double check with the roommates who was there making sure we had all the info straight... I wear it most the time for the first 48 hours.. after that I believe I mainly use it a couple times a day till al the swelling is down.
I am not even allowed to take the dressing off for the first 48 hours... so haven't even seen what my knee looks like yet.
Though I do have a doctor's appointment this morning so will at least get off it and out of the house for a little this morning.
Then when I get home I will be finally able to unwrap my knee. | | | | Pete |

| | Posted: | | | | I was able to take the wrap off my knee today. Seeing what they did to me for the first time. I must say I am amazed at how much they were able to do with just 3 tiny (1 stitch each) incisions. 1 up above my knee and 2 on the knee itself. And in these 3 tiny incisions they put a scope to see and other tiny instruments to repair the damage done. Not to mention scrape the bones clean from the arthritis damage. No bruising on the knee or anything. Though I did end up with a heck of a bruise from the IV!  | | | | Pete |

| | Posted: | | | | I have to start with the exercises that the doctor gave me to do today. The pain seems to be manageable with the pain pills they put me on. But my knee is feeling very stiff today. Not that I am surprised. There is still plenty of swelling plus exercising it on top of that. I just will have to remember that after exercising it to put it back on the ice pack system. But I not worried... I can do this. The hard part is over.
