| | Posted: | | | | Very good suggestions, folks, much appreciated. I have a ton of stuff to try out now. Will definitely try them out to see what gives the best results. Simply having a book on top of the lid did not work, as there wasn't enough pressure. Hopefully my scanner can handle an open lid, because I don't think I can apply enough pressure with the lid closed.
Btw, are there any backdraws in doing what bbbbb suggested? Apart from the time required straightening the cover out. Could the slip be damaged in any way when trying to put it back into the cover?

I also use GIMP because I'm a Linux user, but Paint.NET is definitely more user friendly than GIMP and will achieve the same results.
Stuart I downloaded and gave it a try, it was much slower than GIMP and I didn't find it that much more user friendly. Here is the process I use.
Image --> Transform --> Then you have several rotate options. The problem was aligning it when the scan was off by a few degrees. That's when I had problems while using GIMP. | | Posted: | | | | Ahh, OK. Seems that he had a better idea of what you were asking than I did... When I goto crop the top edge I can estimate the amount of rotation needed, if any. 1. in the Tools panel , right-click the Eydropper and select the Ruler Tool from the fly-out bar
2. left click and hold &drag the Ruler Tool to draw a line on your image. release to end the line, which can then be accurately adjusted by zooming in and moving the end points
3. go to the menu bar and select Image\Image Rotation\Arbitrary...

I did google it though, and it appears there are several ways to properly line up a crooked scan. I'd go insane trying to align the image manually. If paint.net does, I haven't found it. You can rotate the entire image though so basically what I do is find a straight line somewhere on the cover and rotate the cover until that line is actually straight (if the scan is slightly off). With the crop tool, you can just highlight the area (since the crop tool will always give you a straight line) after rotating it to see if you've gotten it straight.
