After reading all the above and doing some testing myself, I agree with the orginal request.

A "quick search" could easily be added to any of several plugins. But I think it would be better implemented in the product.

I was about to suggest that you could use BulkEdit to copy the collection number to some other field en masse, but I discovered that somehow that feature got broken along the way. I will fix it soon, in case you want to use it in the future.

So this discussion has accidentally had an additional benefit to me.

Edit: I found the bug! I'm gonna fix my baby, yaaay!

Maybe as a celebration, I will look for a way to add Quick Search somewhere (but if somebody else wants to do it - that's OK. It could fit nicely in DB Query for example.)
Thanks for your support.

So the filters (or lack of them) aren't the issue here. What you want is a possibility to enter the data collected with a barcode scanner to a correct filter field.

My original request was really ment to ask for more possibilities for quick searches...
And, for my advantage, Collection Number was the field requested...

It would be great if it could be done on a plugin... but I agree that being able to search by an exact collection number should be a feature integrated in the product...
We have the option of using the collection number as a primary key on the database, so why don't we have the possibility of doing a quick search against that same field...!?

If you find a way of implementing it on a plugin, please let me know...

That wouldn't help with the barcode scanner if the only field it can enter data is Title. The problem lies in barcode scanner support, not in filter options.

Collection number as a primary key???? Nope, primary key is a combination of Locality and UPC.

OK, BulkEdit now has Alt-F9 as Collection Number search. A tad slower than if in the main product, but I think it works OK. I don't see why you could'nt use anything that simulates a keyboard to input the number. Let me know if I need to tweak something or put in explicit barcode support.

Thanks.
I just tried it and it's working perfectly with the barcode scanner...
You're right, it is a bit slow, but it's working flawlessly...

Thanks once again for the effort (and sorry about the trouble)...

No worries. I enjoyed working on it. I'll bet Ken pops that into the program someday, at which point I will take it out of BE.

Oh BTW, you probably noticed the magnifying glass icon that you can click in lieu of Alt-F9. I couldn't figure out how to put the input field next to it on the toolbar - that would have been cool ...
