So you're saying the title could include the words Widescreen Edition (Predator: Widescreen Edition), but Collector's Edition could be selected from the drop down list at Edition?      -kd5-

The way the rules and Ken's clarification is as of right now is...

If it is in the drop-down box of the program... it can be taken from anywhere on the case... so Collector's Edition being on the spine is fine... use it.

If it is NOT in the drop-down box of the program... to add it the edition must be on the front cover. So Widescreen Edition being on the back cover don't count unfortunately. Though many of us is hoping he will change his mind on this.

So... that means the correct title/edition for the online database would be Predator: Collector's Edition.

I understand now, thanks for clarifying (making it simple enough for a simpleton like me to understand) Addicted2DVD, I appreciate that...

Sorry I can be so thick-headed sometimes...         -kd5-

No worries... we all have those times.

I would suggest any no votes you get to point to this thread. It should help with at least most of them.

Oh glob, I hope not.  There's been enough debate on this title since it was released. This would just make it worse.

In my honest opinion... that is MUCH better then loosing proper edition information just because it isn't on the front cover.

This is definitely a weird one because (with the exception of the words Schwarzenegger and Predator) there is nothing on the front cover of this DVD to indicate there is anything particularly unique about it, even though (technically) it is a Widescreen Edition (knowing there is a Full Screen Edition out there) of a Collector's Edition DVD.      -kd5-

Not having an 'edition' on the front of the case is nothing new.  The problem is that Invelos has defined it's own standard, of what is and isn't allowed, based solely on where that edition is located.  It doesn't make much sense to me, but such is life I guess.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

The cover can be seen here.

To elaborate on my yes vote comments...nowhere on the front cover does it say Widescreen Edition, this is only mentioned on the rear cover. There is no fullscreen version of the Collector's Edition, which makes using the Widescreen Edition description unneeded, IMO.  While I certainly hope this contribution passes, it ultimately makes no difference on my end since I made the same change long ago in my db and have it locked down.

I was 99% sure there is a fullscreen version of this, I'm near postive I saw one when they came out and remember thinking, "why?"

... so I went hunting online, and sure enough, here's proof I'm right. For this reason I think the widescreen or fullscreen should be included in the edition field even though it doesn't appear on the front. That is vital info IMO, not sure how vital "collector's edition" is. But, there were 2 or 3 previous versions of Predator, so I could go either way with that one.

I also recall thinking it was sneaky putting the edition on back. When they came out I saw them on the rack at Best Buy, about 6 deep with front cover facing out. First one I picked up to look at was FS, as were the next 3, then the WS were hidden behind the FS as the cover looks identical and I'm sure someone somewhere grabbed the wrong one without looking close enough at the back.

I stand corrected.    And, I too, have to ask the rhetorical "why?".  I certainly understand the standard release having both WS and FS versions, but to do it to a CE doesn't make too much sense IMHO.  Oh well!

I know you said it was a rhetorical question... but... Think of it from the studio point of view. There is still many people that prefer Full Screen releases over the wide screen... why should they have to buy it in a format they don't like just to get the extras they want to see? So if the studio makes both they make more of their customers happy. The full screen releases sell... or they wouldn't bother making them.

True, but don't you think, for the most part, those who pick up the more expensive CE are those who are bigger fans of the film, and as such would prefer to view the film in it's original format. Naturally, there are exceptions, but historically when there was both standard & deluxe/special/collector's editions available, the standard edition came in both WS & FS whereas the higher end set would only be WS. Since Blu-ray came along though, the deluxe/special/collector's editions of DVDs seem to be a dying breed, with blu-ray taking over that role.

My concern is not that they make full screen editions, even of Collector's Editions, but that they make so many of them that those are the ones you see most often at Big Lots and in bargain bins.  With the prevalence of widescreen televisions you would think they would manufacture more WS and less FS editions as time progresses.

I only say this because as an avid Big Lots DVD shopper, I regularly see DVDs I would like to own, but more often than not they're the FS editions of the movie, which I don't want.  Apparently, neither did anyone else if they're the ones that made it to Big Lots and in bargain bins.

Just a personal observation,      -kd5-

That is truly sad too.  My entire collection is DVD, 0 blu-ray, nada.  I don't have the kind of money to convert my collection to blu-ray nor do I feel any compulsion to do so.  My DVD/VHS combo player is alive and well (knock on wood), and my TV is only capable of 1080i anyway.

The sad part is that the movie series I have are oftentimes Collector's Editions, but any new additions to the series will be single disc edition because of blu-ray, Resident Evil for instance.  I hate that studios are abandoning us DVD enthusiasts, it bothers me that I will have fewer and fewer choices as blu-ray becomes more and more popular.  I understand progress, but it doesn't necessarily mean I have to like it.      -kd5-
