I will name a few:

They accidentally mixed the name of the card game and the ball game in the remake (Pyramid was the card game and Triad was the ball game in the original)

The cylon schematics of the "walking chrome toaster" and the model base star you see in the mini series are what the Cylons looked like in the old series. You can see these models and the raider in the movie Razor.

The original series also had the Galactica as the only surviving battlestar. Except for the Pegasus which also made an appearance in the old show, back then under the command of Commander Cain (Lloyd Bridges).

The twelve colonies have also been there but there weren't as disctinct as they are now.

In the original Zak (Apollo's brother) was the first one to be killed in the Cylon attack and Baltar was an actual traitor (in the sense of: he did it on purpose).

The call signs of the pilots (Starbuck, Apollo, Boomer) were the actual names of the characters back then.

Starback was a white man, later known as the Face of the A-Team.

Boomer was a black man and Viper pilot (they didn't have raptors back then, only vipers and shuttles).

Speaking of vipers, the old white/red models that were immune to the Cylon virus were the ones from the original series.

Tigh was a black man and not a drun.

Athena was an entirely different character than Boomer.

In the "second season" called Galactica 1980 there were human-looking Cylons but they werre machines on the inside.

Adama looked like Ben Cartwright.

The boy Boxey, that escaped with Boomer on Caprica in the mini-series was the adopted son of Apollo in the original series and was later one main character on Galactica 1980 (as an adult).

The guy who played Apollo in the original series (Richard Hatch) played the terrorist / Quorum of Twelve member Tom Zarek

"Frak" and "felgercarb" have been used as swear words on the original show.


But the new series is no continuation of the old show, just a reboot.

There was a movie in 1978, followed by a series in 1978 & 1979 followed by a mini series in 1980:

The second series, Galactica 1980 had 10 episodes before it was cancelled.

That didn't take long, blocked by NBC Universal.

Welp after hearing a lot about this series from buddies, I picked up from Best Buy for $14.99ea  Season 1 and Season 2 and The Plan for $9

So I'll start watching soon.  Hoping the Season 3 & 4 go on sale at some point.

I really need to get back to this show! Still in season 1... and enjoying every minute of it. But for some reason I haven't watched any more in almost a year!

Technically Caprica comes before the Original Series as it's about the making of the Cylons.

Not sure about Blood & Chrome haven't seen it yet
