But there is nothing saying that the parent profile has to be season base and that it can't be complete series based. All I am saying is that you can't say by anything per the rules or per Ken's statements that there must be season profiles. It just isn't there. I just don't see anywhere that is backed up by the rules or by Ken... so I wholeheartedly believe that season based profiles are not a MUST going by the info we have. There is just absolutely nothing saying that the parent profile has to be season or if it can or cannot be series based.

The poll shows nothing more then what a group of users prefer. which was just basically forgotten about after the poll (nothing came from it from Invelos). And the poll is 4 years old... so who knows how many of the people still feel that way... or if the same people are even here still. So that poll basically means nothing in my opinion.

So I am sorry... I just see nothing at all that makes me want to tell people that in a complete series set that season profiles are a must. Definitely nothing in the rules or from Ken... which is all that contributors must follow.

I understand what you are saying, but this rule, as written, doesn't apply as it says multiple Complete TV Series, not Seasons.  That means one complete series combined with another complete series.

I have always interpreted series and season to be the same thing in the context of this rule.  Personally, I've never seen two complete and totally different "series" in a single release.  Not saying it hasn't been done, but it seems like it would be so rare, that Ken would not have written a rule just to address something like this (I know, he uses the word rare, but this was written when complete "series" were rare).

Locally, for the Leave It to Beaver set that I described earlier, I am setting up the "parent profile" using that UPC, then the child profiles include all the individual discs for Season 1 and Season 2 (using disc IDs) along with the Complete Season profiles (using the UPCs) for Seasons 3-6.  Seasons 3-6 then have "grandchild" profiles for each season (using disc IDs).  It's not pretty, but it works without screwing up profiles which were created under previous releases.  Note: there are no "Season" level profiles for Season 1 or Season 2, since they had no UPCs.  I see absolutely no requirement in the Rules to set up Season profiles (for Season 1 and 2) in this situation.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

If I remember the box set was introduce so a whole series credit profiles could be more easily managed by placing each disc by ID under its parent profile.

I have searched my collection of over 15,000 profiles and the only profiles I have added by disc ID are:
A  set of DVDs by the local PBS/ASU on the history of Arizona, which have no UPC, and the lectures by The Teaching Company, which only recently added UPC to their DVDs. I don't contribute these.

I have a number of completed or multii TV series. or UK sets, and all DVD Id profiles are under a parent with a UPC.

The History Channel and National Geographic are among the worst offender at placing the same DVD with different sets of DVDs.

I Dream of Jeannie: The Complete Series, I Love Lucy: The Complete Series and most have individual DVDs per disc ID under a parent profile with a UPC.

Andromeda (Slipstream Collection) is the usual complete collection, 50 DVDs two to a THINpak, no UPCs, with titles per season.

Some disc Ids are the same as the previously released series sets,  some disc IDs are unique.
Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman: The Complete Series have the yearly series in six keep cases with cover, titled Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman: The Complete Series One ...for the series and Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman: The Movies, all with no UPCs. The disc are titled Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman: Disc 1 through 42. I am working on this one.

With over 2,300 box sets I have seen no need or would I want to add a multi DVD set under a disc ID.
We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own.
