I just tested contributing an empty production year and the system gave no objection.

Did you try removing the production year from an existing profile or omit it from an initial contribution?

I believe the Credit Lookup uses the production year to identify the film. So two films with the same title but different production year will be treated as two separate entries.

The CLT does indeed count two films with the same title but different production year as two titles - that's why it's so important that we all make the same call as to what a film's production year is.

Also, Danae Cassandra is right: initial contributions demand entry of the production year: without entering one, you can't get a profile into the database. And removing it from a box set profile is prohibited by the current rules.

Thanks for the clarification.

That's not in dispute. To be clear, I was just testing the process and did not actually finish the contribution.

Thsi rule never made sense to me, either. A film production year is when the film is finished, not when it started production. It would seem to follow that a series production year is when the series was finished being released, nto when it started. This is the wrong forum for this, though.
