In fact the only crew I really care about are Director, Writers, DoPs/Cinematographers, editors and composers. I only contribute other crew in an attempt to be helpful to other users. |

| | Posted: | | | |  I have had a slight change of opinion when it comes to the credits, the way i see it is like this, The job roles on the right are different descriptions for the job of "Sound Re-recording Mixer" on the left, so if the person credited as "Re-recording Engineer" is the films "Sound Re-recording Mixer" then you credit them, if however the person credited as "Re-recording Engineer" is not the films "Sound Re-recording Mixer" then you do not, of coarse the problem with this is how do you determine this if you are just a normal profiler with little knowledge of the film industry? I don't want to sound like a broken record but categorised open crew credits do seem to me to get rid of allot of these issues with what can and can't be entered |

That's what I call role definition by function instead of by label. Unfortunately the rules are suggesting to go by label mostly. The only part which clearly goes by function is the statement about direct translations. I would be happy if the rules would clear this up in the sense that the important bit about a role is its function and the label comes second. IMO this would only need a small change in the written rule which would not make a big difference for all the mainstream Hollywood credits but would help to improve the situation for those special cases. And we have good experience with such a system for non-English credits where we always have to depend on the direct translation clause. |
