How do you get VLC to play Blu-rays? I do have AnyDVD HD as well.

I can't play Blu-rays with VLC either.

I should be able to play around with the suggestions in a day or two. Once I actually use something, and not just read it, I find the answers to my questions quite easy.

Thank you so much for the information and explanations. Greenies all around.

You have to open with VLC the file (xxx.m2ts) which contains the movie. It is located in BDMV/STREAM folder, and generally is the biggest file (20 to 30 Go). In about 10% of cases the movie is divided in several files and you have to try which are concerned (as there are files for menus and others features). It is the same with KMplayer.

Just for clarification: Go = giga octet = giga byte

Ok thanks. It can really only play the manually opened files then and not the full disc content.

I use it only to take screenshots for my site "Images from movies". I never watch movies on my computer, so this is not a problem.

Does this also do the trick for Blu-Ray? So far, the only thing working seemed to be snagit.

For blu-ray, you can use VLC or KMplayer. Both are free. But you need to run in parallel AnyDVD HD, which needs a license.

How is KMplayer? I use VLC which is pretty good though I sometimes have a hard time going from point of a movie to another (the image would freeze but the audio and time would keep going).

I prefer KMplayer, because it allows an image by image approach, and it is easier to choose exactly the screenshot you want. Both are no so easy to find a specific scene, so generally I note while watching the movie on my TV at what time screenshots may be interesting for my site.

For about 10% of movies, they do not play on KMplayer, and 10% do not play on VLC. I have a little more than 100 blu-rays, and I've not yet found one that could not be seen nor by VLC nor by KMplayer, but I imagine that it can happen.

There's no free software that allows B-rD navigation yet. You need a commercial player like CyberLink's PowerDVD or ArcSoft's TotalMediaTheatre, or similar software.

As mentioned you can play the .m2ts-files for free with eg VLC media player. If you have broken the protection. Even then, have fun with Wolfman.

For screencaps you need to break the protection, anyway.

You can break the protection with SlySoft's AnyDVD, or DVDFab's HD Decrypter / Passkey, or similar software.

For mere DVD screencaps press the Print Screen key.

Thanks, I think I'll give KMplayer a try.

Sorry to take this sort of off-topic, but how do you get the screen capture with KMplayer?
