IMO the parent profile should feature all the info which is valid for the whole box set except what's prohibited by the rules. And the rules should prohibit a little as possible.

In conclusion the video format should be entered if it's the same for the complete set. There may be users which are only interested in the parent profile in the same spirit that some (a lot) users are only interested in the parent of TV series season profiles. For those an empty parent container doesn't make much sense.

But the fact that we're not including cast, crew, child overviews, etc. makes this a sort of half-assed approach.  I mean, if this is important, then the rules should be changed to include everything.  Otherwise, they should be changed to include next to nothing.  Sitting in the middle just sucks.

We do enter the overviews from the packaging (and even from the booklet in some cases). Maybe not everyone is interested that much in cast/crew. I do agree that profiling the parent only is probably not for everybody. I myself profile the children only for film box sets and the parent only for TV seasons. The film box set parents are only listed in my ordered tab for contribution purposes.

Would you mind showing me where the rules say that we do not enter the video format on a box set profile? I'll spoil the surprise for you - you can't. There are many things that, per the rules, cannot be entered into a box set profile. The video format, however, is not one of those fields.

Have I said anything different? Ah yes, the video format is not prohibited by the rules.

You are, of course, correct.  While Ken did remove the requirement from the program, as was requested, he neglected to add it to the rules.  Probably an oversight but, as it stands now, it is not something we are required to leave out.

From rules:
Quote:
Individual profiles for each disc may be submitted if desired, but this is not required. Add these profiles to the box set contents of the parent profile. Create each of these individual profiles in line with the standard Contribution Rules with one exception - Cover Images. If a disc, or set of discs, have their own case, use the cover images from that case. When submitting a change to an existing TV series profile that is currently a box set, do not remove the existing contents.

I am not sure what point you are trying to make here.  For TV series box sets, the child profiles are optional.  For Movie box sets, they are required.  For TV series box sets, the parent profile should contain all the information, including cast and crew.  For Movie box sets, the parent profile can not.
