I am not sure what is so hard to understand as the question was "how do you enter cast?"  As I explained in the thread that brought this up, when I audit a title, I enter crew from opening credits, then skip to the end for the cast and the rest of the crew.

Yes, me too, however I also summarily check the cast in opening credit when I audit a title the first time, just to be sure that they are credited in end credit too.

As both myself and others have pointed out already, there are cases out there in which a film's full cast cannot be found be consulting the end credits alone. So I do not understand why this is even up for debate. If for cast in a film all you do is consult the end credits, you'll get it right most of the time, but by no means always.

My routine always when contributing new entries to the database is (movies with opening and end credits, that is):

1. Put the disc in the player 
2. Go through all the special features
3. Start the movie - grab everything contributable* crew credits from opening credits

(Too often I don't pay notice what cast have been credited in opening credits... need to check more actively for any entries that aren't listed in end credits. Movies with no end credits at all are of course different matter)

4. Once the Director credit is gone, I check the audio options and subtitles while movie is running.
5. Skip to the end credits - grab everything contributable* cast and crew credits
6. Scan the covers.

*) I always omit IMHO redundant crew roles, however, such as all "costume" and "wardrobe" credits when costume designer is credited.

So: I take the cast always from end credits when they are there, but I also watch the opening credits and hope to catch any non-top-billed names that might not be found in end credits. I haven't been writing them in to the program while opening credits run, though. Maybe will have to pay more attention to that from now on.
