Yes? Did anyone claim anything different? I certainly didn't. The only thing is that CharlieM and are claiming that "Buena Vista Pictures Distribution" is not the Theatrical Release Studio (but merely responsible for the physical shipping of the film reels to theaters), so shouldn't be listed as such.

Buena Vista Film Distribution, Inc doesn't only ship the film reels to the theaters. But is also responsible for the deals with the theater chains (selling the movie), the administration etc. In other words the Theatrical Release Studio. New Line Cinema does the same thing. It has a Production House: New Line Productions and a Theatrical Release division: New Line Cinema. There are many examples. That's how I have always understand the principle of film release.

Wrong Corne, they are NOT a Theatrical Release STUDIO, they are a Theatrical Distributor...NOTHING more.

You are trying to create YOUR definition of what Buena Vista is or is not and their name says it ALL. DISTRIBUTION. They have nothing to do in any way with the film outside of Distribution and responsible for the deals with the theater chains (selling the movie), the administration etc. They provided no funding, no production facilities or backing for the production of the film.
ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!!

Is there an official web site that would have a chart available outlining this data? I find this topic very confusing and would find that helpful.

Theatrical Release Studio isn't a production studio. What has the funding, the providing of production facilities and the production of the film to do with the Theatrical Release Studio? Those things are all done by the Production Studios. T!M has brought up a good point. If BVFD has only shipped the film reels to the theaters then I would say that it's not a Release Studio. But I don't think that the BVFD branche has only facilitated the shipment of the film reels.

It has confused me as well. The meaning of the term Theatrical Release Studio isn't the same for everyone I guess.

I also believe Kathy that I explained it Buena Vista is NOT a Studio of ANY kind, they do not not provide any funding or any production facilities, those are all under other areas of the Disney Company, such as Walt disney Pictures etc. They merely DISTRIBUTE, as their name implies, the films stock to the theatres and the administration, they are NOT a Theatrical Release Studio.

Sometimes one has to have a good background in the history of a given film, for example. The Passion of the Christ was Distributed and partially funded by the Newmarket Film Group because Icon Productions could not secure the assistance of any major Studio. After if became a "hit", they were able to secure Home Distribution through Fox, but only after it was clear that they were not taking on much risk, there was much concern about the marketability of the film since it was shot with an Aramaic soundtrack.

Another case of no confusion unless one wishes it. You are trying to apply far more to the term Theatrical Release Studio than is there. The first thing for you to understand is that BV is NOT in any way a Studio, they have no production facilities, they have office space.

Theatrical Release STUDIO...DISTRIBUTION Company, not even CLOSE. We are not after the Theatrical distributor, there will be occasions when say Warner Bros is ONLY the Distributor, not often, but it does happen. Take for example, the people who erroneously list Turner Entertainment as a Production company for Gone with the Wind. Turner is currently the OWNER of the film, the film was made in 1939, Turner didn't exist until the 1980s, they had NOTHING to do with the production of the movie, their logo appearance on the film means NOTHING.

Well on that I agree with you. It's not a studio in the film historical sense (I know the film history well). Theatrical Release Studio (I think it's a poorly chosen wording) is (or was) for me the company/branche that's responsible for the distribution of the film to the theaters. Not only the physical part but also the deals and means. I never paid much attention to the use of the word "studio".

The credit says Distributed By, the company name says Distribution, what exactly is so difficult to understand that we're dealing with the theatrical distributor, not a studio?

They do NOT get a credit in Profiler. It would be like me adding Svensk Filmindustri to every 20th Century Fox film released theatrically in Sweden. It simply isn't done. The only distributor we credit is the media (DVD/Blu-ray) distributor, in the media company field, not the studio field.
