So the bottom line is D. B. Woodside [DB Woodside] as common name?

You would have to go by what the filter does... and what the filter don't do... and use the CLT to see which is the most commonly credited form.

If there is more DB Woodsides then D.B. Woodside (or D B or D. B. or any the filter effects)... then DB Woodside would be the common name. If it is not... then it is as you said above.

I'm not sure I'd agree 100% with that. I think it's more of a case of what the filter does and what the filter can't do.
The filter option that Martian mentioned: D B/ to D./B. strongly suggests to me that Invelos wants initials to be formatted that way. The fact that it doesn't do it for "DB" is because it can't distinguish between initials in that format and short names, not because it doesn't want them formatted that way.

I'd very much like confirmation from Invelos that this is what they meant by this filter because I do see your point of view as well.

Ken's Post

Thanks, but he only says what the filter doesn't do - he doesn't state whether that's because he doesn't want those initials standardised or because of programming limitations.
Personally I think it's the latter  - I mean how do you teach a filter the difference between JO (J.O.) and Jo? It also doesn't make sense that he would only want some initials standardised, not all.

I go strictly by what the rules say... that is why I put what I did.

I never attempt to try to read anything into things. The way I see it... it is not my place to try to decide what Ken was thinking when he did this. If he tells us exactly what he means by something...then I go by that. If he don't... then I go by what the rules says until he says differently. IMO it is the only way to be completely safe with how I contribute and vote.

I may be wrong but aren't initials like this subject to some form of filtering? At the very least that would reduce the name options.

Yes, D.B.//Woodside would be filtered as D./B./Woodside anyhow.

JO isn't*  affected. Just initials that have a blank between.

This is a screenshot from Romeo Must Die credits. Not sure if it's a  space between D B or not...

If you compare it to the "delroy" above it, it certainly looks like there's a gap.

While it isn't a full space, like there is between first and last names, it is larger than the space between other letters of a name.  I hate that formatting, but usually go with it as being 'D B'.
