In Germany this happens quite frequently, at least for less popular movies. Some TV-station buys, together with the broadcasting rights, the right to publish the DVD. For some very strange reason they tend to replace the original endcredits with a localized (and mostly heavily abbreviated) version.

Your option 1) (with the given explanation) is the correct way to handle this. All actors that don't appear in the endcredits of your DVD have to be listed as "uncredited". As a special you might ask one of the contributors for another profile of this movie (with complete credits) to send you screenshots of the cast-list (Just to make sure your "uncredited"-list is correct).

Aha, that is something I am aware but haven't seen stateside. I have seen DVDs in cereal boxes, but I don't think i would worry about them from a Profiler POV...but that's me.

This also can happen on reissues.  Take Abbott and Costello, for example.  The original Universal prints typically ran end title cards crediting full cast with roles.  Later, the movies were reissued theatrically by Realart and many of those end cards were trimmed.  Fast foward to the home video age and we have a hodgepodge based on what elements the studios were able to find.  In the case of Universal, for a number of A&C titles, the first time around they could only find the reissue print...minus the end title cards.  On the massive box set release, they may have found the original print.

Essentially, anything that's been reissued theatrically has the possibility of being altered, and there were a good 20 pre-television years where many titles were reissued.  Consequently, a studio can release different credit versions of the same film depending on which source material they used for their transfer.

Yeah, I've seen this on versions of the Steve Reeves Hercules; the credits are different depending on who is putting out the DVD, and one version has no credits at all other than Reeves.  So I just copied the cast credits from the others over, and marked them uncredited.  Noted what I did in the contribution notes and all was good.
