You have to figure in that Germany is way smaller than the US!

That and Amazon placed their central warehouse in Bad Hersfeld
which is basically the crossroad between a north-south axis that starts at the border to Denmark and ends at the Austrian border to Italy. and a east-west axis that goes from the border of Poland to the border of Belgium.

Bad Hersfeld is also close to the big Autobahn junction of the A7, A5 and A4.

I pay for "Prime" membership at Amazon, and get free 2-day shipping on almost everything.

You have to pay for 2-day-shipping?
At the moment that is the standard delivery time here (provided they have the merchandise in store).

But since Amazon is offering the "Prime"-service here now too, I guess that, this will become worse.

Well, if I were getting it shipped to me from within the state of Georgia, which is 43% of the size of Germany, I would expect overnight delivery also.

If our Prime items are shipped from the distribution center in Indiana, we usually receive them next day. Elsewhere then it is 2 days.

And yes, I'm living in Indiana

I'm in Iowa. Most Amazon stuff I get comes from Kentucky. DDD is in Itasca, IL and yet takes way longer to get stuff to me. It often taken nearly two weeks from shipping to arrival to go about one narrow state.

I too used to love and order a lot from DDD, always looked forward to their big sales. Since it became DD, I hardly ever see anything priced competitively and I haven't ordered a single disc from them in almost a year. Amazon is the way to go most of the time.

Prime seems absurd to me.  I always use the Super Saver Shipping.  I can wait an extra day not to pay for shipping.

Me, too, but there are times when I'd rather not hunt down something I don't really need to push my order over $25.

I must be the only one with the opposite experience. I don't buy tons online at the moment as I have to watch my spending right now, but over the years I've ordered from both companies frequently.

I've had problems with Amazon.  Granted, I haven't tried prime, but I haven't wanted to spend the extra money for bad service...I've had discs damaged from them, really long shipping times (and yes, I had paid shipping costs, not the free stuff!).  Difficulty getting replacement discs from them and bad customer service when contacted.

DDD, on the other hand, ships quickly for me for free.  Usually receive the order within 3 or 4 days, which I think is pretty quick for free (I'll give you I live close by, but still a state away from the warehouse).  When I have received floaters, they're more than willing to send me free shipping labels to reship...that was this fall.  Price for what I've bought has been better than Amazon for me, too.  I like not having to get to a certain price, too, to get quick free shipping.  I have a feeling that varies for what you're looking for though.

My two cents...

In the UK they changed the minimum order policy and now any item that qualifies, whatever the price, you get the option.

I wish Amazon.ca was half as good as Amazon.com, but their prices are often not even competitve with Futureshop and Best Buy, let alone its American counterpart. That is why I still buy most of my titles retail. Heck in the last year I have ordered 3 times more titles from amazon.com than amazon.ca because even with international shipping and duty it is usually a better bargain.

Be happy there's at least an Amazon.ca, There isn't one for Australia/New Zealand.

I seem to be in the same boat you are.  I've ordered quite a bit from both DD and Amazon over the years and haven't had a really bad experience with either, though I don't order from DD much any more because their prices are generally higher.  The exceptions to this are that they put on some pretty good sales a couple of times a year and I'll usually take advantage.

My shipping times from either Amazon or DD are all over the map, from a few days to a couple weeks, with no apparent rhyme or reason.  This generally isn't a problem as I have plenty of unwatched DVDs on my shelves already.

Oh, man. Yeah, I freely admit I'm jealous.

Does it also have the prime option in the UK? Because it almost seems pointless if they do.

Yeah, they have prime, and it means that they ship faster - though you are right, it is less needed over here

So, Prime gets their stuff next working day (They ship on Sat & Sun for Mon) and they will also use couriers if that is needed

(Though I sometime have issue with the courier service)

Currently Prime user, but I think I may be dropping it soon
Signature? We don't need no stinking... hang on, this has been done... blast [oooh now in Widescreen]

Same here in Germany... And Blu-Rays are one of the qualified items
