| Posted: | | | | That's why I think it should be in the subtitles section but as they aren't quite the same as standard subtitles do think they should have their own identification. |

Agree. The question is how to deal with them now though. widescreen is already submitting them as other features. I believe we need some input from Ken or Gerri on this since there is no proper way to enter the info. |

I believe we need some input from Ken or Gerri on this since there is no proper way to enter the info. One reason to include SDH in other features is the situation where the DVD contains both a standard subtitles and SDH subtitle. While this isn't done often, it happens frequently enough to warrant mentioning is somewhere -- and since there is only one tick mark for English, for example, the only way to identify that there are two flavors of English subtitle is via the other features box. Interestingly enough, using PowerDVD I can sometimes open BOTH versions of English subtitles -- on appears at the top of the screen, the other at the bottom. I get a kick out of the differences in dialog. Apparently different people do the captioning and the dialog may not be the same (not counting the data about sounds that are included with SDH). | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? | Posted: | | | | Since I am a regular user of subtitles I don't see that much difference between regular english subs and SDH. The biggest difference are the character names when you can't see who's speaking or notes on sound that happen offscreen or a music note sign when someone sings.
Since I am not hearing impaired (just not a native english speaker) I cannot really assess the importance of these differences to a deaf person. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | I believe it would be, terry. But for me this all seems much ado about little.
And again if memory serves properly, i beluieve it was Disney that first stiopped using CC and actually introduced SDH.

No. The version of PowerDVD I use (7.0) will display two discrete subtitles (if there are more than one). I think this is disc-specific because I can't do it with all DVDs. I do know for sure that at one time I had French and Spanish subtitles on screen at the same time AND ALSO Closed Captions (English) -- in other words, three different sets of words on screen at once. It pretty much blocked most of the scene, but it was interesting to find out that it could be done. If a movie is particularly boring, I sometimes turn on English Subtitles and CC just to see what the differences are -- and they often are different, especially with role names (e.g. Charley vs. Charlie). | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? Quote: So I have a total of 15 ( so far ) ( HD) titles that not only have two or three or even four subtitles, and there is no CC on the box but there is the term SDH English only .. I was going to add this feature into the feature box that is empty, with the words: SDH English only .. If we already have English subtitles selected I don't see the point adding this information to Other Features. I've voted accordingly and i guess we'll see how it turns out. OK out of my 15,, I pulled back 12, as the other three never had any votes (Freedom Writers. U2 Rattle and Hum, and John Wayne's The Cowboys)., so the three blank /no votes I left as the same as the twelve ,well today they were approved., don't know know if this means bad data, as some would put it., But the screeners obviously approved of the optional menu item of SDH as a feature ... | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Who said bad data? Redundant or mis-applied might better describe it. The screener's approval doesn't imply validity, simply that they didn't find a reason to disapprove. They are human, not omniscient, and can err. You pulled 12 of 15, presumably based on No votes, before the screener's had a chance to review them. Without the screener's votes on those 12 the votes on the other 3 mean nothing and imply no mandate. SDH = subtitle. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

| Posted: | | | | I am missing something here., terry. You submit fifteen and you ake down twelve of them, I don't see the logic in not removing them all then.

| Posted: | | | | Out of my 15-- 12 were heavily voted no.., So I pulled them and left the three with no votes, waiting for the votes never happened.. 3 days later they were approved .. Now on my agenda Next year will be to remove those three; ONCE the right feature option or drop box is implemented in the next Invleos upgrade (hopefully with the right choice for SDH to be added alongside subtitles.) | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Instead, you took advantage of a flaw in the system. That flaw being, profiles without votes, usually get approved.
