I just discoveres that ther is a plug in for twix medie player that shows information and covers for dvd profiler, but not for POPCORN ( salted ) A do not have any expirens in programming but A popcorn app that shows your collection, then plays the video, using LoadDVD filepaths and changer support, that would be nice...

I am waiting for the new POPCORN HOUR c-200 to be released....

Have you seen this? I know it is in Danish, but the changer will not come to Europe for a very long time.

Yes, I knew about that tvix plugin, and I think there is another program that uses one of my plugins, combined with the tivx thing to make the screens for some other box. Like I said, so many players and options.

So I think my best path is just to stick with what I know: LoadDVD. If I can make it do something cool with streaming to those kinds of boxes, I will, but I am not interseted in getting into the "yet another way to show DVD covers using Profiler XML" game.

I'll take a look at that site - try to see if the dozen or so Danish words I still remember do me any good.

(Edit: actually I did remember "fra"  - that's all you need to translate the headline). Yes, I have been watching literally daily for that announcement, and have read the US Sony Style website and some reviews. I am disappointed that the high-end unit does not have a computer media connection, but it does have a RS-232 connection, and oh yes, I will try to add support when I can. I used to think naively that I would get enough donations from plugins to be able to buy these goodies, but that dream has long gone. So, I just wait for somebody to write the open-source conrol code, then I just build that into my plugin and then beg some members to test it ... so far, so good. I never did own the CX777ES, but I've been told that the plugin works. I could probably build the IR Control without owning the box. I'm sure those codes will be published soon, or somebody from the forum will lend me their remote for a week so I can capture the codes. From there it is easy to put them into LoadDVD.

Keep in mind that Invelos holds the copyright on the data, so I presume that twix or whoever is paying a license feefor use of our data and images, if they are not they should be.

Must have missed your question. No, sorry, I don't have the ziotek with built-in player. Maybe when I get the change to get it here, I'll try it, but so far I only see the Dacal being sold over here.
Unfortunately, I can't use DVDprofiler at the moment due to lack of a Windows computer.

I have no idea. BTW, I don't consider it "our" data, as I am not an Invelos representative. So, I have to assune that Ken protects his interests appropriately. I don't confuse my stars with actual ownership. I'm not really on the payroll, and don't pretend to be.

On the one occasion that I mentioned something of this nature to Ken in a PM, I got the impression that not only was he on top of it, he was making a decsion about what to take issue with, and it was none o' my business. So I don't worry about it - the guy who really owns the data does just fine.

Mediadogg:
Neither do I on any count. I gather that your post was meant to be argumentative in siome way. The facts are that the data we accumulate is copyrighted by Invelos, which means they own the data and its formant and it cannot be just willy-nolly be used by some media player Program because they want to do so, anymore than we have any right to scrape data from others. Any issues in that regard are for ken to deal with. I find the attitude in comment  to be highly offensive and insulting, furthermore the whole post was completely unnecessary.

what a shame this important topic got lost in an argument.

I personally woudl pay for invelos to create some mechanism to import my info into WHS, and if they can't I will be moving to another system.

In terms of ownership of the data, Dr. Pavlov is incorrect. Involves doesn't own 90% of it. I can say 100% of the images in my DVDProfiler data files cannot legally belong to Invelos no matter what as o studio seems to have conveyed rights to Invelos.  Even users scans uploaded are not "owned" by Invelos because no rights were or could have been conveyed by the uploaders since the cover art is owned by the studios. A scan of someone else copyright material can't be copyrighted by another party --ever. When it comes to the various synopses text they are mostly scraped from elsewhere by DVD profiler and or its users, indeed some are verbatim from other places. When a user cuts and pastes text from DVDEmpire, Amazon or IMDB and contributes it to DVDProfiler Invelos doent get any rights to that text.

But let's leave that.

I don't know about how things were when this topic was started, but right now  WHS is growing in popularity both as OEM installs and with the HP series, and networked media stream devices like Asus, WD TV Live, Popcorn 100 and 200 are more like in the $80 to $150 range.

So this is going to be a growing demand and especially for the market of people with substantial collections that bought DVDProiler like myself.

We have our whole collection on a WHS server right now, an DVD profiler is losing its utility for use since it is only running on a pc.  Either Invelos will adapt its product and offer a plug in or people are going to scrape out their data. Several software packages already offer the ability to scrape dvdprofiler.

Let's keep ll this on a positive note. I feel like a stakeholder in DVDprofiler because I know it. I am an early user and purchaser. But it needs to adapt. I for one would pay for a plug in. It isn't that difficult!

OMG is it some $300 device! DVD Profiler is $30, and most plugins are free. Seems like you are asking the wrong people for help on this!!! You should make Popcorn provide its own butter!

FYI this isn'tl about popcorn which as about 1% of the market, there is also Asus and WD. WDTVLIVE sales have literally exploded and it is one of the top items on amazon and a huge seller with newgg, and even costco the past few months. it is sold worldwide. the networked version is about $100. he networked Asus o!play is $80.

Edit: Ok, I found that post I made. I must have been half asleep both when I made the original post and also last night. Both of my posts were dumb.

Anyways, I wonder if you are aware of the ability to operate WHS from a Remote Console? I do it all the time, and you can load any software that doesn't conflict with WHS. There is no reason you couldn't run DVDP on WHS and/or use WHS to host a central database. There is no plugin required for any of that. What am I missing? Maybe you can describe in more detail what you are trying to do.

Breaking News! (Update: hitting dbisam errors now - this might not work long term, after all.  )

I was testing out a WHS add-in called "Tab Creator" and wondered if it worked with DVD Profiler. It does!

How to do it:

(1) Install Tab Creator as WHS Add-in
(2) Install DP on WHS
(3) Add tab and point to dvdpro.exe. You must use the advanced option and enter the DP title "Invelos Software DVD Profiler", and put "/CloseExisting" into the command line arguments field.
(4) Close the WHS Console and restart. Viola you get this (LoadDVD even works):

Problems so far: (Edited, solved one problem with improved directions above)
- Must start console using Remote Desktop Connection.
- No way to restart DP unless restsart the console. I will try to contact the author of the add-in.

Thanks for your support.
