it was stupid to include the 'As' - it's obvious that this is not part of the role..

I agree, but... "obvious" doesn't always seem to cut it here

I'm going to disagree. The rules state "as credited".

Just kidding.

Yeah... why profile according to the rules? We sure would end up profiling spelling errors in names and roles just because they are written in the credits too... Not to mention typos and wrong spelling on back-cover overviews which we of course don't replicate in the profile's overview - obviously we are not stupid

According to the rules the contribution was correct - a negative voting on a correct contribution just because of personal dislikes is not - again according to the rules... But it sure is interesting how some people loose their manners and get insulting about just two small letters

No, the contribution has not been correct! The rules state to enter the role name and the persons name as credited. But the "as" is neither part of the role name nor part of the actors name the same way as the dotted line which can be seen sometimes "..." is not part of them.

Ah, let me guess, it was your contribution ... which also explains the weird PM I got from you and didn't know what to do with it.

Well I don't consider "himself" a "real" role name either... but that's just a personal impression. What about contributions stating "voice of XXX" as credited and getting approved... if it's just for role names it should be just "XXX" without "voice of"...

And what do you say about the credits containing both dotted lines and "as"? Would mean "as as" too... Or why "real" rolenames come without "as" but "himself" with "as" in the same credits?

God that's really getting stupid... and just because of two letters... one couldn't care less...

Good guess. And agreed, the PM looks really weird without proper explanation.

We do profile typos, but only if they are inside the name or role, or overview. We do not profile all the rest. If the screen reads "John Smith as Himself", we enter "John Smith" in the name field because that's the credited name and "Himself" in the role field because that's the role he played: Himself.  If the screen reads, say, "Introducing Little Joe as The Prince", we enter "Little Joe" in the name field and "The Prince" in the role name, not the words "Introducing" and "as".

OK, but playing devil's advocate here, how do we know that "As Himself" is not a real name, as in Mr. & Mrs. Himself's little girl Asturia (shortened to As in the credits).

Yes I know it's very unlikely, but as has been said many times on these forums, "Who art thee to try and second-guess Hollywood actors naming strategies? Thou shalt input it as credited". It may even be a typo....and we all know that we enter typos, don't we!

All those special cases can be added with proper documentation.

That is to say, usually the simplest answer is the right one.
