Sound crew is a paricular problem.  Compared to other credits the variants seem endless.  I don't really relish the idea of having 10+ differnet sound credits in the system and shoehorning all the varieties that exist into the slots we have is not much better.

Personally, at this point I think the rules cover the majority of significant cases and should just be left as is.

But I can see why you raised the question T!M.

Well, I didn't have any problem understanding why you'd raise the question.  Personally, I could have been persuaded to include the data.  Thankfully it looks like the next version will clean this up, one way or another.  Of course all my crew data is about to go offline, but that's not my problem.

Sound crew is a mess; I'd just as soon Ken eliminated it.

I find it fairly worthless and have never understood why people want this information.  Personally, I have never watched a movie and said to myself, "Wow.  That was some great sound mixing there.  I wonder what other movie this guy worked on?"

There are quite a few credits that fall into this catagory.  Don't get me wrong, if people want them...more power to 'em...I just don't get it.

I personally agree with ya. But I feel that way about most crew credits.

Agreed as well :-)

Writer, Director, etc...  I can understand the value there... DoP/Cinetographer a bit less so, but there is enough striking work there that I might want to see what else they had done...

But in general Sound is meaningless to me, as is "Film Editor".

Have you actually read my posts?! I have quite thoroughly explained why I feel this isn't black and white. I'll repeat it for you: as I see it, this is what the rules say:

1. don't enter a "co-supervising sound editor" as "supervising sound editor"
2. don't enter a "co-sound editor" as "sound editor"

The problem with your argument that "Co-Anything" refers to the "supervising" part so the person could be credited as a "sound editor" but not a "supervising sound editor" ignores the fact that the restriction on "Co-Anthing" is shown across ALL the Sound section.  I believe it is clear that we are not to enter "Co-Anything" anywhere -- just like we're not to include Assistants, Associates, or Interns.  Otherwise, the prohibition would have  been restricted to the individual role and not across the whole Sound section.

Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. I don't have to show you any stinking badges.

I agree too. I'm only interested in Directing, Writing and Music.

Never said they weren't important, just that knowing who they are seems fairly useless.  I am quite sure that crafts services is very important to most productions, but I don't care who they are.

Seriously though, why do people want to know who they are?  Director, Composer, Writer, Producer (think Jerry Bruckheimer)...those I can understand.  But sound re-recording mixer?  I just don't get it.

The initial point with this post as far as I can tell, was to acertain whether to include co-credits or not, and no matter what we (you) feel about the existing rules regarding sound crew, the fact remains that we DO NOT ENTER CO-credits.

If you find the information useful or not, is besides the point!

I don't want to get all stuffy about this, I just wanted to point out - if you can notice the sound mixing - it ain't great sound mixing!

Nobody is forced to enter sound crew members. But to have the option has to do with respect for the people who work hard for making a film as impressive as possible.

Back to topic: Apart from any rules discussion just one information for T!M: You are completely right with Your assumption that the Co-Supervising Sound Editor is almost as impossible as the Supervising Sound Editor and is in charge of all the other Sound Editors. Therefore he would be a candidate to be mentioned at least in the Sound Editors' rubrique if the rules would allow so.
