I currently own a Sony KDL-46V2000. It's HD ready and has a contrast ration of 1000:1. I have a panasonic DMP-BD30 hooked up in 720p and a region free Pioneer DV-400V-S, also connected in 720p mode. I do have a good image quality, but I'm wondering if upgrading will make a major difference.
We have an offer at work were we can get a few models at very interesting prices. The one that looks the best is the Sony KDL-46W4500. It's full HD, has a contrast ratio of 50000:1, has 100Hz motion flow, and 24p True Cinema.
Another option is the Samsung LE46A656. How far do you sit from your TV? If it is within 10 feet you are more likely to see a difference between 720p and 1080p. If you sit further then 10 feet away from the TV you shouldn't be able to tell the difference. Their is alot of info available at websites such as www.bluray.com and www.avsforum.com | | | The artist formerly known as TylerDurden_73 |

I'll have a look at what they say over at AVSforum and Bluray.com. | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

| Posted: | | | | So the improvement in image in the newer tv sets is mainly because of the much better contrast ratio. When I bought my TV 2 years ago, it had 1000:1, now you have 50000:1 (philips even claims to have 2000000:1) Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me, but when viewing a perfectly tuned KDL-46W4500 in the store, it looked sharper, brighter and had more vivid colors. | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

| Posted: | | | | did you watch also regular TV or one of your Blu-Ray disc's on it, If they where playing an optimised Blu-Ray Demo disc on it? Technology improves every year on plasma and LCD. Like for LCD: black-enhancing LED backlight technology. This can be regulated in steps and would produce true blacks and not grays. And other improvments on both sides: black-enhancing LED backlight technology. | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. What Samsung did you purchase?
Samsung BD-P1500 UPS brought mine at about 1:00PM and I've been having a Godfather marathon. It took only a few minutes ro set it up. Tomorrow I might even read the instruction manual. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. Ineptocracy, You got to love it. This week we have what we could consider – with some tolerance for marketing messages - the first sub-$100 Blu-ray player – the Insignia NS-BRDVD at Best Buy. | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. But I hardly watch regular tv, and I have digital TV at home, so I doubt it will look worse than what I got now. | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

You'll have quite a wait then. It took what, nearly 10 years before DVD players hit the under $100 mark? Also the technology of a blu ray player is way more complicated than for a DVD Player. Even if you consider that the DVD Thing was 10 years ago. | | | Check out my Youtube channel under https://www.youtube.com/user/alittleolder |
