This change does not affect the VAT (value added tax = Mehrwertsteuer), but that's only because you're never subject to that kind of tax if you import goods.
The customs office adds the Customs duty (=Zoll) (3,5 %, based on the value of the goods and the shipping costs) and taxes that amount with the turnover tax on imports (=Einfuhrumsatzsteuer) (that has the same per cent value as the VAT in Germany).
As long as the added amount of value of goods and shipping costs do not exceed 22 € (now) or 150 € (starting Dec. 1st), neither customs duty or turnover tax on imports are applied. Well, I don't care what you call it, what I'm interested in is if you have to pay it or not. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | Ok, I don't know about Swedish VAT, as I'm not familiar with Swedish tax laws.
You might have to pay VAT, you might not.
Sorry if I tried to explain this matter a little more, and sorry if I didn't cater to your specific needs.
The turnover on import tax you shouldn't have to pay anymore on imports below 150 € if the European regulation is also set in effect in Sweden. You might want to check your local news agencies to confirm it or check your Swedish customs offices websites.
Search for Import tax, though, as searching for VAT might render incorrect results (even though you don't care about naming it correctly, news agencies and government bodies tend to do so...). | | | Lutz | | | Last edited: by Darxon |

Are you sure this goes for VAT as well and not just the "zoll" ? Huge difference since our VAT is 25% but the zoll is only 3.5% (or was it 4% I don't remember exactly).
Talking from the German perspective (same might apply for other countries as well though):
This change does not affect the VAT (value added tax = Mehrwertsteuer), but that's only because you're never subject to that kind of tax if you import goods.
The customs office adds the Customs duty (=Zoll) (3,5 %, based on the value of the goods and the shipping costs) and taxes that amount with the turnover tax on imports (=Einfuhrumsatzsteuer) (that has the same per cent value as the VAT in Germany).

Happy shopping (X-mas will be sooooo much fun for my collection and my car....) I think, that this is correct for all EU countries, since the 22,- € limit (now 150,- €) determines, if the delivery has to be handled by the customs. No handling by the customs means NO custom fees, no VAT-pendant (Einfuhrumsatzsteuer) and - the largest part for small deliveries - no handling fees: these fees made about 10 € over here in Austria. Once I got a bill which read like this: Value of goods about 25,- € Customs a little bit over 1,- € EUSt about 4,- € - which I - as company - can claim back Handling fee: nearly 10 € Cool figures... - especially if you are a customs officer Regards, AA | | | Complete list of Common Names • A good point for starting with Headshots (and v11.1) |

| Posted: | | | | Knowing Norway - we will keep our custom-free limit, currently at NOK 200,- ($38.05 USD, £19.53 GBP). It's been unchanged since 1975, so a big hooray for one of the richest countries in the world! | | | Berak

http://www.avforums.com/forums/7637435-post167.html Alas, as that page says, the new EU customs-free limit (raised to 150 euros) only applies to customs duty, but you will have to pay import VAT just as always if the value is over 22 euros. I've just bought the Hitchcock Premiere Collection from DeepDiscount for 47 dollars, but on that I had to pay 7 euros as import VAT (20 percent on DVDs, in my country), plus a fee to the local post office. | | | -- Enry |

But at least Dollar and Pound are very low currently (there has to be one advantage of this economical crisis!). I just ordered the first season of House MD for 13 Pounds = 14 Euros. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | Yesterday, I had to pay Parcel Force £20 for a parcel from the States declared at $37. Of that £20, £7 was duty and a whopping £13 to PF for the privilige of allowing them to collect the duty. I don't mind the duty, but I think that a £13 collection fee is daylight robbery! | | | Chris |
