There simply couldn't be two releases in the same locality with the same UPC, at least, not for any movie where stores are going to care which one they are selling.  One or both of these is an error.

Not quite right. As counterproof check "Terminator 2 - Ultimate", where there were at least 3 releases with the same UPC, SteelCase, Steelbook and KeepCase

I did say one's where the store cars what they're selling THey may not care which case Terminator 2 Ultimate comes in or which of the $1 crap bin titles is sold, but they are going to care abotu the difference between the two Fantastic Four movies.

Oh so you're the distributor then and you really know what's important. It's good to see that at least someone cares.

If you would have cared to check you would have realized that I wasn't talking about a third class movie. T2 was a major release and the different releases all came up on the same day and to make the UPC-disaster complete with different edition-namings such as "Ultimate", "Ultimate-Collector's" or just "Director's Cut".
But yes, you're right, this was only T2 and there were not more than 50 million copies sold worldwide. So it hardly matters.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

*wads through the sarcasm*

your first post about T2 you stated 'Terminator 2 - Ultimate', listing the only difference as 'SteelCase, Steelbook and KeepCase'. Now you are saying that they had different editions. "Ultimate", "Ultimate-Collector's" or just "Director's Cut". I haven't seen these editions and am only aware of the ultimate.

Not trying to speak for Ace_of_Sevens, but when i read his post i didnt think he was saying that the studio didn't care just that 'they may not care' if it is sold as a steelcase, steelbook and keep case.

also, was there a steelcase and steelbook? i'm no clear on the difference (i know there is probably a few posts on the difference) but it seems weird that they would do both. I know they had a the metal slip cover (steel case?) and then the cardboard one that (i thought) came out in a later release though its possible some retailers got one or the other and some got both (I think someone once said that columbia house doesn't usually send slip covers with there dvds)

In germany this SteelCase was sold:

UPC:  4006680022284

Contained in it was this (I don't know if there was other stuff in it) KeepCase:

This KeepCase has the same UPC as the outer SteelCase and the KeepCase was later sold individually.

Don't know about a SteelBook, though.

The Terminator 2 Ultiamte Editions all have the same UPC, btu they are the same content, just soem on one double sided disc and some on two one-sided discs and soem with a metal slipcover and some with foil-coated cardboard.  They are all essentially the same thing.  This isn't the same as a competely different movie.

The keyword is later. Therefore it is a rerelease with the same UPC and a different cover. Nothing special!
