One question I did want to ask...when I look at the database to see what new submissions there are...am I seeing all there is? Or are there other databases out there that I do not see? I am thinking by your comment that there must be other databases out there that I as an American do not see...like German one...for example. Am I right in my assumption?

You only see the submissions for the profiles you own or have in your wishlist. So even with a very large collection any given user only sees a small sample compared to the overall number of contributions.

How does it work when they get say a German contribution? Who decifers that? Do they have someone on the board who speaks or at least reads German? Just curious about that.

All contribution notes, regardless of the profile's originating region, are supposed to be in English.

As Homer Simpson might say DOH!! How stupid was this question of mine? I know that and did not even think about that.

One thing that I did NOT know was that if I had a DVD in my Wishlsit that I could also see contributions. I thought you actually had to own it.

So if I am reading what you say correctly...if I someone was asking a question about a certain DVD that you do not have in your local database...all you would have to do is add it to it via your Wishlist and then you would be able to view the contribution and help answer their question? Are you also able to actually vote on the contribution?

Now this I did not realize. I was thinking that because they are in different regions then us they would not get DVDs with titles etc in English and that their regions would be different then ours. I know some DVDs overlap in regions...but did not know that all of the countries go through one database.

I hadn't thought about using it like that, but yeah, that should work. And yes, you can vote on profiles only present in your wishlist. Every so often there's a submission on stuff I have in mine, and I always vote neutral.

Often their DVDs don't have titles in English and their region is different than ours, but they're still part of the same database. The contribution notes have to be in English so the screeners can understand what's going on. The contribution itself doesn't have to be. I.e. the overview, etc.

To see non-region 1 profiles just click the button to add a new DVD to your database, select the Add by Title tab, and then change the Region drop-down menu to display Any Region. You'll see plenty of foreign stuff.

In fact, out of the 337,000 titles currently in the database, only 130,000 are from region 1, so a vast majority of the profiles in the database are from regions other than North America.

Only one correction here. The contribution notes do not have to be in English... Gerri said herself that she had to deal with notes in other languages... and asked people to make notes in English.. even if they had to use an online translator. But taken how many people actually read the forums and actually saw that post by her... I am all but positive she still needs to deal with notes in other languages.

you realise of course that you need to have loaded the profiles up to the online database and the system uses THAT list to decide which updates to show you.

Yes ... I do realize that I would have to enter it in my WishList and then upload them to be able to see the one that is being updated.

I just did not know that you could do that. I have read questions about certain DVDs that I do not have and wished I could see it so I could understand what they were talking about. Now I know I can do this.
