Why don't you just accept it? Because Ken has shown that he is willing to listen to different opinions, and suggestions to make changes to the rules. Why is there a Rules Committee?
At least try to stay open-minded. Most of us are open minded but, Ken has mentioned in the past he doesn't want a complete rewrite of the rules only tweaking or addressing individual issues as they arise. And looking at this poll when the issues was brought up how to handle TV series with the community was not in favor of having box set rules apply to TV series. http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=119172 And for those who have forgotten this is what Ken had to say about it. Quoting Ken Cole: Quote: The results of this poll clearly indicate a preference for cast and crew entry in the parent profile. The choice of whether to download individual disc profiles then becomes a matter of personal preference. As I mentioned earlier, box set contents are automatically locked when the profile is added to the local database, so the user can clear them at that time (or just ignore them as they have no impact if the child discs don't exist locally).
As to the child profiles, we will accept them into the online database. Once box set contents are added to the parent, removal will generally not be allowed. The rules have been modified to indicate this. Feedback on the changes is welcome.
I personally don't have child profiles for box sets of TV series, so I'll be happy to have the cast and crew info in the parent profile. Personally I have no issue with John or other members of the rules committe trying to come up with new rules on how to handle TV series like we do with any other Box Set and present it before Ken. If Ken adds it to the rules then that's how I will contribute. | | | Are you local? Quote: This is a perfect example of the hypocrisy of treating TV sets and movie sets differently.
We had a huge fight (several fights actually) before settling on the current method of master/child profiles for each TV season, and have to include ALL the stuff in the master to satisfy certain people.
There is NO DIFFERENCE between a single TV season and a mega set, except that it's MORE. And guess what? Putting six, or seven, or ten seasons worth of stuff in the master IS really stupid and cumbersome, and a royal pain to work with - JUST LIKE WE TOLD YOU IT WOULD BE!
So, now, you all want to vote to not do the megasets the same way. If it wasn't so damn sad, I'd be laughing my ass off.
I promise I won't say I told you so... not too many times anyway! Why don't you wait how the vote goes before spraying your venom...
If we make each Season/Series a Box Set, then there is no way to make the profile for the "Mega Set" the parent... On the other hand, so far (as of my post) the majority has voted to treat the "Mega Set" as a Box Set, so the "Mega Set" profile is the "empty parent" and the children "Season/Series" profiles have all the data. But you haven't changed a damn thing, Achim! You've just shifted it from one master to a lower level master, and you can't even DO the child profiles yet at the grandchild level. How have you improved anything? Do the megabox as the master, then do a child profile for each disc, and forget about the individual season boxes for now. When Ken bestows the ability to add a season boxset to a megaset master profile all you have to do is add six, or eight, or ten secondary master profiles for the individual season boxes. You still can't do grandchildren, but at least the data is in manageable chunks ready for that level when it comes. I just don't get why you guys are so bloody paranoid about calling TV boxsets and movie boxsets what they are - BOXSETS - and then doing the profiles accordingly. It would make things so much simpler all the way around. | | | John

At least try to stay open-minded. This is not the Rules Committee forum...it is the contribution discussion forum. Here we talk about what the Rules tell us to do TODAY! There is a discussion about how some would like to change the Rules in the Rules Committee forum! Take it there! | | | Hal |

And there you go, assuming again. Ken has never said that as far as I'm aware. And just exactly who published the current Rules? And just exactly who published the Rules in two distinct and different sections: one for movie boxsets and one for TV Sets. Oh, that's right. It was Ken! I guess it's a real stretch for you to conclude that because he set them up that way that he thought they were "different". As I said to Kevin, this is not the forum for "as we want to see it", but "as the Rules" state today! | | | Hal |

You are getting hostile again, calm down. This will be fixed, it is not the first time we have been dead-ended, the Megasets are simply beyond the program right now, we don't have any way to get there without causing a lot of extar work, fortunately this area is still relatively small. It's far easie to leave it, for now and come back and do it when the grandchildren are installed. Than it will be to create some sort of a shoehorn and then have to re-structure it.

| Posted: | | | | Why not just make everyone happy? Have all the info the the parent and have the child profiles as well. I personally don't need child profiles for my TV series so I want the parent to have all the info. Those that want the children can delete from the parent whatever they don't need. |

| Posted: | | | | The lack of grand child capabilities, Bodi, is one reason why we are using Master profiles for option for cast and crew data, that way we can at least capture that data. For the time being that is the absolute best we can do is Master profiles and Child profiles to break it up by Seasons, the next level just has to wait.

| Posted: | | | | If you wanna add even more grandchildren go for it, I won't try to stop you...but don't prevent those who wanna use only 1 profile per season to do that...it seems to me that is the way you want to go. That's why I said 'why not make everyone happy'? |

The rules tell us how to properly profile those sets now. Mega Set is the parent, the seasons are the children. Why would I need to be trapped and wait patiently for an undetermined amount of time then? Once the grand children are in place, adjusting it from teh way it is done now will be very easy. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

When and if "grandchildren" are added, we simply need to add the exisitng disc level children to the seasons........done. But of course, we might get "tabs" for doing episodes also, so what then. The point is, we cannot do things today based on what we might get later down the road, 'cause none of us knows for certain what that's gonna be! | | | Hal |
