Since the rules concern contributions to someone else's database I would suggest that it's not your place (or mine) to determine the "legitimity" of such rules.  There's quite a difference between suggesting changes to the rules and (if I interpret you correctly) calling the existing rule illegitimate.

Same here, and in the end, I'm fairly glad that I decided not to participate. There's a (fairly) easy way to avoid this. We've all heard about it, but we all (and this explicitly includes me too) only very scarcely seem to have the discipline to go this way.

It's:
Don't feed the troll

Just to make sure: This is not aimed at a single user, but the only working way I'm aware of to stop a behaviour that can be observed from several people.
