My main thing is the fact that The Parent Trap and The Parent Trap 2 at the bottom of the case is not part of the title.

I can understand how you feel that. I'm still torn on that, as there are way too many DVDs in the database either one way or another.

I don't think you (general) can have it both ways, meaning for this boxset, the movies get entered in as the title, but this other boxset, they don't. Mass inconsistency there, especially when the rules are at best vague on how to deal with them.

Has this been brought up in the rules committee, yet? Because perhaps it should.

On this we agree (minus the spelling error).  The title would include the two film titles listed on the front cover, just like we have done with every other double feature, forever.

Like you have done.  Like some other users have done.  Not like I would do...but don't worry, I don't buy these 'double feature' sets so, while I would not do them that way, I have no dog in that fight so won't do anything other than offer an opinion.

Just out of curiosity, what would you enter as the title IF you had to contribute this release:

Going My Way / Holiday Inn

Region 1

Released: 11/2/1999

Full Frame 1.33

or this one:

Lassie Come Home / Son of Lassie / Courage of Lassie

Region 1

Released: 11/7/2006

Full Frame 1.33

or any number of others just like them?
Hal

I think the first one

Title  Going My Way / Holiday Inn
Edition  Universal Cinema Classics (it is pulled from there collection)

The Second one

Title  Lassie Come Home / Son of Lassie / Courage of Lassie Triple Feature

Although an argument could be made for
Edition  WB Triple Feature

I generally agree with your comments for collections, Hal. The ones that actually scaqre me the most in this thread are the collections that have a rather genereic title like "4 Action Films Collection" and then list the 4 titles, that can get ugly really quick.

I also agree with the titles in the example you just posted. Can't see the first one, but Lassie would have Triple Feature in the Edition field.

However, while Pete's DVD has both titles on the cover as well, it also prominently features another heading. So for me that one is teh title here, with the other two going into the child profiles or dividers (the one thing I must have overread is, whether this is a two-disc, double-sided or single-sided compilation).

So, the two options to me are:

Title: The parent Trap
Edition: 2-Movies Collection

or

Title: The Parent Trap 2 Movies Collection.

After having read all 11 pages of this thread, I thing the latter is correct.

Can't say without seeing the entire case.  As I eluded to earlier, while I take the title from the front of the case, I often use the entire case to determine what that title is.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.

We will teach it to them again.

It is a 2 disc set... first disc with both movies (single Sided) and 1 disc of extras

Well I am sorry when it comes to contributing towards the rules... I will contribute per Rules even if I think it is less useful. No different then no end dividers in end of crew sections... just like you recently agreed with me about.

IT don't matter... it has to be both ways... as DVD Cases is done both ways. Some has a single title for the DVD Release... with the titles in the set listed. Some has no Release title... with just the listed titles... and others has had the DVD Release title... without the titles listed. As long as the studios does it differently there will be differences in how the sets has to be done.

It's not that I don't understand that, and even agree with it up to a certain point, it's just that I can't help feeling a bit saddened at the conclusion that "usefulness" apparently has no place in our contribution process.

Until you can get the rules changed they need to be followed just like any other contribution. Whether we like a rule or not is of no matter. It has to be for the online database. Just like every other rule.

After reading all post , I also have to say I see both sides.
Best thing would be if Gerri or Ken step in and decide this for us

And 11 pages without any insult

But if the rule makes no sense there's no need to make the contribution at all.  Just how much trouble is the maintenance of the online database worth?  You've spend eleven pages to not quite decide how to enter one title.

Both sides? I can see at least four sides (with number 2 being my favourite and number 3 coming even after number 4):

1.
Title: The Parent Trap
Edition: 2-Movie Collection

2.
Title: The Parent Trap:  2-Movie Collection
Edition:

3.
Title: The Parent Trap: The Parent Trap / The Parent Trap II
Edition: 2-Movie Collection

4.
Title: The Parent Trap / The Parent Trap II
Edition: The Parent Trap: 2-Movie Collection
