I never have.  Not once have I looked at a company registry to determine what company to enter.

Thats why there was the Studios topic, and on the big 8 you often don't have to.

As I said, I never used that thread.  While it was linked from the rules, the rules did not state that it's use was mandatory.  In fact, the wording used has never changed and reads the same now as it did when the thread was linked.  As I was never unsure, I never had to ask questions or seek further information in the forums.  Ken was asked to make it mandatory, never did, and that was one of the reasons the thread was abandoned.

In addition, you are mixing studios/production companies with media companies.

For the former, you should always use the actual credits, not the case.  This is what most users seemed to want, and that is another reason we no longer have the studio thread.

For the latter, while I don't like it, anything on the back is fair game.  I don't have the title you mentioned so can't give you specific answers.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Funnily the now obsolete Studios topic would have told us the right way. But since it doesnt exist, rules say i should add 20th Century Fox and Svensk Filmindustri. Both are wrong.

Both would be correct for media companies. And the filter will automatically adjust 20th to Twentieth no matter what you enter so there can be no doubt about that.

While never mentioned in the rules, I don't think we have ever entered the local theatrical distributor in the studio field. SF distributes Fox's films theatrically so they can put their logo on it but we never give them any credit. Nor should we imho because it's totally useless information for the DVD and is already covered by media companies now that we have it.

I only check Finnish companies from a registry, cause its the fastest way. But not on other countries since i dont know how they operate. An example: Walt Disney (distributor). Cover says Walt Disney and Buena Vista. What to enter? Took me less then 10 seconds to find out that from 04.02.2008 onwards Buena Vista didnt exist cause it had changed its name to Walt Disney link. My point is, registries are very useful in my opinion.

I've never seen the need to consult a 3rd party for such cases. If the cover lists both Walt Disney Home Entertainment and Buena Vista Home Entertainment as media companies, I enter both. If it lists one and not the other, I list that one. Why do you want to make it more complicated than that?

But what I have learned so far is that SVT definitely is an abbreviation and shouldn't be used. It can't be used. Nor "SF", etc.
Because it's not OK to abbreviate "Fox", "Disney", "Pixar", et al.
If that's a rule, then SVT is a no-no too. Among all others.

You are definitely right that if the credit reads Sveriges Television, you are not allowed to enter it as SVT. But if it's the other way around... Well, the rules don't really say but you know my opinion: When in doubt, follow the credits. That's really all I have to say. And I apologize if I sounded harsh in my last reply.

For finnish releases absolutely NOT, Correct entries would be:

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment
FS Film

or maybe

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment
Svensk Filmindustri
FS Film

but I hate to see this combination used, since the "SF company" in Finland is FS Film Oy.
