John, relax a bit. Reading your  multiple posts on just this page can possibly be insulting to some user.

Use friendlier language, and people will listen. The choice of wordas in your post most often makes me ignore them right away...

Each one is to a different person.  Are we now restricted in how many replies we can post?  I'm sorry if I'm not being "friendly" enough, but this morning we had this whole thing just about in the bag.  Then the usual suspects have to find some way to exploit the rules.  So, yeah, I'm just a tad upset.

I agree John, the rules need to be changed. However, this forum is NOT the rules forum, it is for discussing contributions and the correct way to do them under the current rules.

Unless I'm mistaken, Dividers are mentioned exactly twice in the rules:

First Do not include artificial actor entries to act as separators between cast lists. (e.g. "--JAPANESE CAST--"), instead use the Divider feature for this.

Second: Complete Series/Season & Anthologies of Episodes – List all Cast Members for a TV Series appropriately. Use the Divider feature to indicate episode divisions.

Since Ken has not posted his opinion of how episode dividers should be used regarding the separation of main cast from the rest, the use of dividers in any way other than breaking down the cast and crew list by episode would be in violation of the current rules.

The program has changed, the rules need to be changed to catch up to the program. I am merely trying to point out what I see the current rules call for and the problems I see with trying to define a rule which would allow for a "main" cast.  Let me try one more example:

24 Season 5 current profile for V2.4/5 has 7 names were contributed as "Main cast added" last November.
Exactly 2 of those names are in every episode, 3 in 23, 1 in 14, and 1 in 7. Obviously, different people are going to have differing opinions of what constitutes main cast. Not every TV series is going to profile like Andy Griffith, and the rules, when they are changed, will have to fit that reality.

Wow, Pete's comments really created a flood of vote changes... Looking forward to see what the status is in a few hours, when I come back here after a good night's rest.

Thanks, Pete

Yeah, and created a hell of a lot of extra work by forcing us to duplicate several entries for every damn episode!  If you have six regulars and 20 episodes that means 120 EXTRA entries for that season. REAL IMPROVEMENT GUYS!

NOT!

You could always just wait until episode profiling gets here and do it then......OR you could "get ahead of the game" so that all that work doesn't have to be done at once!

Hmmmmm......where have I heard that argument before?  It sounds soooooo familiar.

Other than Hal just has to have it HIS way even after the majority polled for Op. 1.

I guess I now have the power to make 45 people vote for Option 2.

I think I  need to go influence a few more polls!

We've already compromised and Ken gave his blessing on box set child profiles, but the rules still read the same.

It's been 1 day! The rules will of course have to be rewritten and are currently in the works.

And Ken has said nothing so far about boxset contents being permitted!

No, we are not, basically. Only if Ken or gerri get on your case....

Other than that, I was just making my point, you take it or leave it. Personally I don't feel offended by the language, but during a discussion the way way you present your argument will ultimately decide if the opposing party is listening...

Yes, I agree, there is quite some redundant data with "the other method", but obviously there are limitations and pitfalls that need to be taken into account.

I got to say... I am sorry that John don't like the turn of events... but when I started to actually implement what was to be done I quickly came to the realization that the pros just well out weighed the cons for all cast to be put under episode dividers.

Yes on some sets it would work fine.. you would have little trouble with it.. but I found after playing with it for just 1 day that more times then not it was just too over complicated to work it out smoothly. And in my opinion if these additions can not be done in a way that is simple to follow most people will not bother to do the updates for it.

and for the record I for one am... and always have been... all for cast as credited in the order they are credited if you remove that "in the order they are credited" you get nothing but personal preference. The way it is now you know exactly how to order them without having to even think about it. So yes credit order does mean something to some of us.

True. We still don't know about that.

Also, as was pointed out in that forum (I think) it would help if we knew of possible future plans to have separate episode profiles... or not.

I don't have time to go through 11 pages, so I'll ask a question that perhaps someone can answer.

In regards to guest stars.

Is it OK to list the episodes and then the guest stars for each episode to the main "Box Set" profile or is that only for the individual "children" DVD profiles?

I'll try to explain what I mean. Let's says I want to list the guest stars for each episode of Laverne & Shirley: Season 1.

Do I put that info in the main "Box Set" DVD Profile or leave that blank and put the guest star info in the "children" DVD profiles?

Also what do I do when nobody else has contributed the "children" DVD profiles of a TV Season set that I want to add the guest stars to. I don't have a DVD Drive on my computer so I can't get the disc ID at all.

I've seem DVD profiles that lst all of the stars in the main "box set" DVD profile of a TV Season, while others I see only list the main cast or are completely blank.

I'm just a little confused, I don't want to waste my time & effort in adding the info and then contributing it to only have it denied.

Thanks.

Come on, Kevin, that's like shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic!  The physical limitations of Option 1 mean you can only enter the regular cast in one order.  If the order changes in episode 3, and you change the list accordingly, then its in that order until it gets changed again.

All that matters is that all the regulars get listed at the top.  The specific order is a moot point.

The physical limitations of option 1 are the reason I was initially opposed to it and then subsequently became reopossed to it.

Actually John, the rules are quite specific on what as credited means: "...with names and roles listed exactly as they are in the credits and in exactly the same order credited"

And rules can be rewritten.  That's why we call it a frakkin' compromise.  NEITHER way is ideal.  Option 1 LOOKS better, and involves less damn work.  Rewrite the bloody rule or add an exception to it.

We've already compromised and Ken gave his blessing on box set child profiles, but the rules still read the same.  What's the problem with doing that here?  Other than Hal just has to have it HIS way even after the majority polled for Op. 1.

Calm the hell down. You're the one acting like you HAVE to have it YOUR way now.

different. I chose the impossible. I chose…
