Kermit the frog is a ficticious character also, but if you click on his name you'd expect to see a list of all programs he was in.  You wouldn't expect to have to click on his name and then go find this "himself" person to find the rest of the films.  How "real" the actor is shouldn't have any bearing on where the name goes.

Yes, it does. Following the discussion before and after your post we can conclude the name of the (voice) actor or puppeteer has to always be entered in the name field and the character name in the credited as or role field. So it needs to be Frank Oz [Kermit the Frog] as Himself OR Frank Oz [Himself] as Kermit the Frog (if the cast list explicitly shows "Himself as Kermit the Frog"), although I think it always should be the latter as you can never really see Frank Oz.

OT, but wasn't it Jim Henson who did Kermit? Frank Oz did Fozzie, Miss Piggy and a slew of other characters, but not Kermit, afaik.

I was confused by the example mdnitoil gave me and I didn't knew he was in fact played by somebody else.

On second thought,

Quoting Ken Cole:
Quote:
Sandra Bullock [Ida Flammenbaum] as Herself is correct.

If I read this it tells me that Sandra Bullock is credited as Ida Flammenbaum playing herself. That can't be right, because Ida Flammenbaum is not a nick or stage name but a role. I really think we should not reverse the name/role positions with ficticious characters and just should enter Sandra Bullock [Herself] as Ida Flammenbaum, because that tells me that Sandra Bullock is credited as Herself playing Ida Flammenbaum.

All I will say on this at this point is that there already is a system in place for this but since somepeople want to destroy the database I won't bother explaining it. This is very predictable as are other things.

Ida Flammenbaum is a ficticious character.  She is played by Sandra Bullock.  All this does is link her to the other films Sandra Bullock was in.  When you look at the credit, outside of edit mode, you will see 'Ida Flammenbaum as Herself'.  You are creating a problem, that does not exist, by over analyzing the data.

You think so? If you double click on Sandra Bullock's name, outside of edit mode, you don't see 'Ida Flammenbaum as Herself' and what if she just did the voice of Ida Flammenbaum, do you think it makes sense that the role reads Herself (voice)?

THINK about it Ida is a "Role" played by an actress, how do we handle such not credited data. Hmmmmm.I was thinking about providing the answer, it has been used before quite elegantly, and was figured out by another user, but i am noty going to give you the answer. There is a way the data should be handled and it is NOT this way.

For those interested: apparently Skip STILL considers himself a master of interpretation. He's voting against my update of 'Damages: The Complete First Season', changing the erroneous "Greta Van Sustern [Herself] as Greta Van Sustern" entry to "Greta Van Sustern as Herself", as confirmed by Ken (twice now!) in this thread, commenting:

Nope can't go there, this is FANTASY data that is not based on ACTUAL ON SCREEN DATA, also not consistent with Ken's statement

I have no doubt that his no-vote will be ignored by the screeners, but I'm just completely flabbergasted by this behaviour...

I also revoted NO on Miss Congenuiality because you mishandled the data, as I said we have a system ALREADY in place deal with it.

As much as I disagree with a lot of things Skip does and says I do think, that as long as this whole thing is not confirmed by the rules, he can just do as he pleases.

I've entered it EXACTLY as Ken told us to do it, and you still disagree? I guess I must have misinterpreted those words: "Sandra Bullock [Ida Flammenbaum] as Herself is correct."

Its not as I please, Martin, it very SIMPLE. I understand the design of the Rules as NO ONE else does outside of DanW. This issue was carefully considered at the time, Tim has his opinion but he neither understands nor does he care to even try to. And as for the Sandra (Ida) issue, as I said there was a very elegant solution uncovered by a user that is already in use. So this whole issue is so wrong on so many different levels, many of which i will not even begin to address.

So Ken Cole is wrong too and you get to vote how you please?
