It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Hope all you guys are all real happy about causing someone this much pain and distress over such a tiny thing as a dash.

Reveling in other's pain and distress is careless and destructive. And you all do it ALL the time. You care more about that then your damn DVD collections. You all make me sick.

I am causing pain? Are you kidding? Who is the person who is angry, nasty, disrespectful and hateful because he doesn't get what he wants? I start to think that this poster maybe not be an adult because this behavior fits a child.

Your first post alerted the community that dashes were being incorrectly contributed to the database. Interestingly, you did not request clarification or input into the matter instead stating your opinion as fact.

In your very next post you professed an opinion which could be viewed as being insulting.

I don't find it necessary to resort to namecalling in order to discuss a topic or disagree with someone.

These are just a few examples of your posts which I find to be offensive. So, I ask you - is name calling all you have?

Oh well. I predict this debate will lead nowhere, as usual.

This thread did lead somewhere. You might not like the result but it showed that the application of dashes, en dashes and em dashes and their application is contributable per invelos. Ken even simplified the process by adding these dashes to the Overview contribution page.

Quoting MikaLove:
Quote:
The em-dash is simply new and very alien to me and I don't like them because the look like mistakes. Freaks of nature. Brrr.

This sounds like a personal preference to me. And, no one said that you need to apply these dashes to your local database,

You can do whatever you want locally but when it comes to contributing or voting, then your preference must be in alignment with Ken's rules and guidelines.

Quoting MikaLove:
Quote:
(And Kathy: I noted many of your yes votes were lacking in really looking at the contributions like I do – when I find obvious mistakes and flaws.)

I find this statement to be another example of you insulting another member of the community.

How do you know how I look at and evaluate contributions? It might be that, like this topic, I simple do not agree with you.

After this last insult I decided to compare the numbers of votes and contributions we both have. Because, as a general rule, the more one does something the better one gets.

MikaLove:
Accepted Profile Contributions:         671
Accepted Image Contributions:         345
Contribution Votes Cast:                   539

Kathy:
Accepted Profile Contributions:         5,125
Accepted Image Contributions:         1,593
Contribution Votes Cast:                 17,025

I said I wouldn't post any more because I had said what I needed to say. However I felt an urge to reply to ridiculous posts and personal attacks. You call me so many things and make me look like a childish idiot or what the f*ck ever.
To me, many of YOU are the morons. And you prove it time and again just in this topic. It's like evidence.
How easy it is to stir up emotions here!
Just by a way of writing and being a bit different and all sorts of things. And you take things so damn personally I think it's YOU that need the therapy you're talking about.
Maybe you live in the movies too much.

I don't even want to bother about the last posts if they are about me or whatever.
But it's all just pathetic.
I wanted to start a debate about dashes partly because I figured there was some confusion or errors or lack of understanding and it has turned into something... I don't know what to call it.
But there's a lack of tolerance here, that's for damn sure.
And so many know-it-alls.

Kathy, I bow down to you, who have so many contributions and think she is perfect, and OH, you're a woman too. Big deal. You're as thickheaded as anyone else. You don't care what I try to explain. Even if I sometimes express myself badly or that I may overreact a bit or overstate something.
Still, I want my points to get through, but they never do.
Seems you can't take any criticism.  I bet people here rarely criticize you. I bet I am an idiot for doing that right now.

All the crappy posts about me has derailed this topic long ago. Surely I may have a bit of responsibility for that as I as usual have a hard time occasionally to explain what I mean. But I can't take all the blame when people are so keen on thinking they know everything and that I don't have a point whatsoever.
Well, at least I have developed through this topic and I never said the dashes are just plain wrong and should not be used.
But I get some of my words turned against me, which is really ridiculous. Misquoting.

I'm leaving this sandbox. (Or am I?)
I'm out of pies to throw!
But you seem to live near a damn bakery or sth.

That would happen... if we had actual mods here and given this has gone on 10 pages, it doesn't seem we do. Any other forum, a thread like this, a mod would've given a warning and if it continued just outright locked it.

I have to agree here...

Where is the moderator (Ken) when we need him? I haven't seen as much insult for quite a while here

Seriously I'm unable to think of a discussion since 2009 where this Mika dude wasn't insulting or aggressive...

Sorry, but you look childish all on your own...this post is a perfect example of how you do that.

Sorry, but you are the one who got upset, then resorted to insults, when your error...the fact that em-dashes are rarely used...was pointed out.  Seems to me that it is you who is taking things so damned personally.

I don't know what you wanted to start, but your original post didn't show any signs of wanting to start a debate.  What that post showed, yet again, is that you think you know better than the rest of us.  Regardless of that fact, people did respond in a civil manner.  You were the one who got upset, and insulting, when you were corrected.  That attitude is what turned this thread into what it is.
Quote:

Yes, there is, but you are the one who is demonstrating that lack of tolerance.

Your points came through just fine.  The problem is, you didn't want to accept any other points.  You were right and nobody was going to tell you different...talk about being thickheaded.
Quote:

Actually, that would be you as well...the one who can't take any criticism.  Had you accepted the fact that em-dashes are quite common in US overviews, this thread would have ended a long time ago.  Instead, you chose to attack everybody that disagreed with you.

I went back and read all the posts in this thread.  You are the one who is so keen on thinking that you know everything.  You are the one who acted like nobody else had a point whatsoever.  You wanted us to defer to your Swedish standard even though we were discussing an American profile.  Had you not taken that stance, this thread wouldn't have been derailed.

You said, and I quote, "That's why I say it's at least wrong for Euro releases to use em-dash..."  While that doesn't apply to the profile that started this thread, because that profile is not for a Euro release,  you did say it.

Bottom line, this could have all been avoided had you simply given the courtesy that you seem to think you didn't receive...accept the fact that other people have a point too.

It has been my experience that proficiency comes with repetition. The more someone does something, as a general rule, the better they become at doing it.

The only statistical data that shows how much experience a person has relative to the contribution and voting process are the ones I have posted.

There are many thing that I take great pride in and am quite proud to brag about - the number of contributions I have made or the votes I cast are certainly not some of them.

My only reason for posting those comparative statistics was to show that amount of experience both MikaLove and I have when it comes to contributing and voting.

I fail to see how using factual data to illustrate a point is childish and I am certainly not embarrassed or apologetic for posting it.
