I am completely with you on that, but there is one point that needs to be confirmed before we do that. Is KEN willing to answer that email and help with that. if not, we would just waste time...

Donnie

From what I have seen in the past, I would imagine, if we put together a properly worded and formatted rule change, he would give it consideration.

I do also know, that complaining, griping, and whining are not going to get you anywhere.

Charlie

I'm with Donnie here. It would just be a waste of time unless Ken gives the go ahead first. I would send a support ticket but I always get the "this has been forwarded to the correct department" nonsense and never hear anything else after.

A life licence doesn't need a good support, the developper doesn't expect more money from you so you are old news for him the day you bought the licence.

I certainly agree with you here but when current customers input all the data for the product enabling more sales, some degree of support should be (and for me is) expected. I all but gave up on cast and crew and no longer bother with that. The only reason I submit anything at all (and I submit several bits and pieces a day) is so that other users who I have benefited massively from (Pantheon, 9hours, GreyHulk etc etc to name just a few) can also benefit. That's the only reason I bother submitting stuff when I update locally now.

On the other hand, starting and participating in a thread to complain about invelos support isn't a waste of time

I am just suggesting that you direct your "wasted time" in another direction.  In the end, what have you lost?

If we take a section and create a properly formatted and updated rule, with overall support from the users, within the scope and limitations of the program, and Ken in the end doesn't respond, then you can claim it is a waste of time.

After all, what have you lost in trying, aside from some healthy debate within the rules forum?  Time?  Time is going to pass one way or another..

IMO, no, because if possible customers are looking into the forums before they buy the product, they get to see that the promised forum prescense (sp?) isn't there.

(I have requested access to the rules committee)

The MC update was a joke. Quoting CharlieM:

And this I agree with.

The one that I participated in, The MC update, was primarily done in the Rules forum.  It was then presented in the Contribution forum, Then finished in the rules forum.  When all was said and done, the update was word for word what we presented.

How many times in 3 years has that level of work happened (presenting Ken with a properly worded update that can be agreed upon)

It should be done in the rules committee.  The work has to be done...

Charlie

The MC updatye was a joke. No ONE, not a single user ever tried to apply a definiton to exactly what iot was we are looking. For example. we know that BVHE is the DVD distributor of record for Walt Disney Co., sometimes WDSHE is listed as Distributor but rarely...who or what is WDSHE, I sure don't know and no one has everhaven't seen anyone else apply anything rational to it. It is a piece of undefined or undefinable that someone wants to capture. Are they a Label/Brand, what exactly are we after in the Media Company area? This undefined piece of data is why I refuse to make use of it, what is it, why is it a good piece of data, not a single person has ever defined that, though they have been asked to.

As a relative newcomer, I’d really appreciate some sort of more formal way to look up things that aren’t in the Rules, but for which there is some sort of general consensus about, such as Charlie has suggested.  At the moment it’s scattered all over the place, sometimes there’s been more than one discussion on it (not always with the same conclusion) and it’s not always easy to find what you’re looking for by searching for it.  It’s hard enough if you’ve been around for a while and have a memory for these things, but if you don’t fall into both these groups it can at times be next to impossible.  (I know I’ve posted quite a few questions in the past where people have then kindly posted a link as a reply, to where it’s been talked about before.)  If anyone has the time, inclination and ability to do this (such as Skip has indicated), it would be really great.

As an addition to this, what would also be really good is a list of links to useful software and sites that can be used to verify information for submission. I’ve slowly collected some of these up over the past year or so, but if I’d have been able to have access to them earlier, it would have made things a lot easier for me and made my contributions more accurate.

Paul

This is not surprisng at all. We are constantly adding people to the system. We also have users that specialize in the idea that the last time my idea failed, maybe this time... or i as I call it the Rule of the week syndrome.

Talk about beating a dead horse!

There are FAR worse dead horses to be beat over and over again.

Extended information in group dividers, Buena Vista, uncredited cast, parsing issues, asian names, users knowingly submitting incorrect data, certain writing credits (is it OMB, story, should a credit even be given, why doesn't adapted by deserve a credit etc), spelling errors in overviews, accented names...

The list goes on and on and on.

Of all those dead horses, 1 of them finally got a response (after I sent annoying support tickets on a daily basis until an answer was received). The dead horse about extended information in group dividers is now no longer an issue. Took Ken probably all of 15 seconds to type out his response. It took almost an entire year to get that answer

Trying to get the proper support that we paid for from a company/man that promised it at the time of payment being received into their hands? Not a dead horse I mind being beaten over and over.

And hey, if this particular dead horse finally got a response and something was done, then all those other dead horses that everyone hates beating over and over again... maybe those might go away too. Wouldn't that just rock?
The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play.

Just imagine how short so many discussions would end up if we had Ken/Gerri/Appointed person's persistent presence validating answers rather than our always having to "figure it out" over the length of a week only to have the same questions come up again later.  We would get bored; there would be so few ongoing conversations anymore!

No, they don't. Not as promised, anyway.

I don't know about anybody else, but I payed for a program and access to a database, not constant support.  Most of the software I purchase, at a much higher price, gives me support for about a year.  If I want support after that, I have to pay again.

That is the only reason I ever contribute and, in my opinion, is the only reason anybody should contribute.  While Ken does benefit from my contributions, he isn't the reason I contribute.  I do it for the rest of the community.  I don't mind that it helps Ken because, as I said earlier, I have gotten way more than monies worth out of this program.
