On a similar issue, how useful is it to use group dividers for song titles?
I just saw an update where three groups dividers are used for three song titles, each then followed by the song writer. Who actually was the same in all three cases...

Personally I would vote no to this.

I always use the custom role if I want to indicate the song, eg. 'Songwriter ((I've Had) The Time of My Life)'

• I Thnink I Love My Wife (8712626036708 : Chris Rock - F The Cracker: Written by

Ihave no problem with it, Staid and I would vote Yes, it additional detail which IS informative. I have used the Custom Roles for this data to date, but sometimes there is excessive information in such data that exceeds the length, it's an interesting idea. I don't think I see a reason to vote No.
ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!!

I would absolutely vote no to such an update. The rules have the following to say on using Group Dividers for Crew:
  • Exception: If a company name heads a group of crew, use the Group divider to enter the company name.

  • ...
  • Also use Group dividers for crew teams, included only if the crew meets the other listing requirements.

  • I don't think your example meets any of these conditions (they're neither company names nor crew teams), so I would consider it to be against the rules.

    Agreed.

I agree also. It actually turns into a list of songs, which may be "information", but would need a separate database entry.
I see it as an attempt to visually reproduce the credits rather than getting the information out of the credits, especially in the case I mentioned where the (only) song writer is repeated three times for three different songs.

I disagree. A group of songwriters working together to write a song seems like a "crew team" to me.
The example that Staid gave was a bit extreme, but for example my profile of Absolute Beginners contains 24 songwriters spread over 14 original songs. Without using the group dividers it would just be a long list of names, just like the Visual FX credits were before we were allowed to use dividers for them.
I say we use the dividers to our advantage.

I agree, north. Simply a list of songwriters, particularly a "simple" list loses all context as to exactly what those 24 people did.

Well until Ken makes up his mind on this I will continue to include the entire VFX credit.

I also notice that the rules states.

    Quote:
    Dividers

Dividers allow the segregation of cast and crew into logical groupings. Wherever possible, these groupings should mirror the film credits.

From my interpretation of this it would mean that the Divider is part of the groupings and thus should mirror the film credits. Excluding portions of the company credit isn't mirroring the film credits at all.

I was referring to Staid's example only: one songwriter who wrote three songs. I wouldn't disagree with the (different) example you're giving - there the use of group dividers makes sense to me.

I like this idea.  Especially for movies that have original songs

to have a group that says
      Song A
        Theme writer A
        Theme Writer B
      Song B
        Song writer A
        Song writer C

Would give a lor more meaning than just
      Theme a
      Theme B
      Song a
      Song c

I don't know if technically allowed, but would be nice to have (I also never looked at it this way)
