When I preview changes to my db, I get a lot of updates that is only adding or removing birth years. I can't see any changes in the contribution notes. ?

It's just annoying. I couldn't care less. I'm not interested in birth years. Is there an option to just accept all or deny all birth years changes, so I don't see them in my preview window ?

I don't believe so but, I hope you realise, that there is a *point* to these changes?

I fully understand you aren't interested in when an actor was born BUT the birth years are there so that when you search for all the films with a specific actor, and two or more actors have the same name, then you only get the films that the 'correct' one appeared in. I imagine that this may be of some use for you at some point so maybe turning down all birth year changes is not something that makes sense.
It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong

Yes, I realise that. I just want an option to accept all, so I don't have to accept or deny them every time. Because I don't know what is a correct birth year or not. Most of the updates are about people I haven't heard of before.

If you want to just accept them all, then just accept without previewing.

Maybe I'm dumb. But how I do that, without also accepting other changes. (I want to preview every other changes.)

Locks locally are your friend here.
I often will go over the submissions and if stuff I have locked is being chaged, I'll change it if I agree and not if I don't. So if you want to accept the cast changes but not the overview and audio, then lock the overview and audio before accepting the audit, while looking at the contribution notes. Lock em when you look and they'll stay locked until you turn the locks off. Then no changes will come through when you accept other changes, even if all on the same audit. I have around 50% of my casts locked for stuff like custom BYs I can't contribute or common names I don't want to keep changing, but I keep up with all the other changes by the contribution notes and change manually when needed.

If Birth year would have been added it wouldn't harm.
The problem here, is that somebody changed the profiles by removing lots of Birth years.
It's a bit strange that it is possible to contribute by removing data !!!
This would mean that if somebody doesn't want to see a certain field, he could just remove it and his contribution would remove it for all the others that maybe would like to have that particular information.

The difference is that there is rules attached to every field. For birth year the rules are that they are used only to separate 2 like named cast/crew members. If they are in there and not needed per rules it can be removed per rules.

These same rules stops people from deleting info that belongs.

I've mentioned this before but I think it needs to be repeated.

I have thousands, maybe tens of thousands, of unwanted and undocumented BYs in my database.

I did not add them and I do not know where they came from and it is a PITA to remove them one by one.

Every single time I contribute data to a profile unnecessary BYs keep popping up that should not be there.

For example, I did not add any BYs to the DVD's credits for the movie Babel UPC 097361222042. Yet when I hit the contribute button up pops BYs for:
Brad Pitt (1963)
Cate Blanchett (1969)
Robert Fyfe (1925)
Michael Peña (1976)

I did not add them and I have no idea how they got into my local database. I am fed up with going back to and removing something that I didn't add in the first place. I refuse to do this anymore because it is big waste of my time.

On the contribution page stating that these BYs not yet been determined as necessary and should not be submitted. If invelos recognize's that these BYs should not be there then why can't it get rid of them?

What I now do it ignore the Cast and Crew section - leaving those damn BYs where they are to do whatever they please.

If someone has a solution please let me know because I find this issue to be extremely frustrating.

One reason for unwanted BYs popping up in surprising places is that everytime one downloads a profile, e.g. just to take look at the subtitles, audio tracks, bonus features, etc., every birth year in that profile magically gets updated in all of your profiles that have the same actors/actresses without a birth year.

If you later on remove that downloaded profile, the BYs will still stay in the other profiles in your database.

Of course this can be beneficial, too, but mostly it's just a major nuisance

Can't the Birth Years be locked in the new version?

So you can lock them to have no Birth Year.

This would be great but I would have to get rid of them first.

There's no way I'm going through 13,000+ DVDs individually to remove BYs.

Something like Flag Collection > Remove BYs would be ideal.

A major nuisance in everyway, absolutely.

Kathy, you don't necessarily have to go through all your profiles one by one to remove the BY's. If you go into any profile and go to the cast and crew sections, all the cast and crew appear on the left side of the screen. There you can scroll through your cast and crew credits to find BY's and remove them as necessary. It's still a HUGE pain in the a$$ and completely time consuming, but it saves you from clicking into each and every single profile you own.

BY's are literally my #1 pet peeve with DVD Profiler. I was ECSTATIC that the new version gives us the option to strip new BY's from the updates, but it doesn't even come close to fixing the entire problem.

I was submitting the color field to a bunch of new profiles I've created in the past months, and I'd say that 1/3 of them came up flagged for BY's that were not yet submitted/accepted into the system... and I thought I was being careful when downloading new profiles... apparently not careful enough. Everyone has a freakin' BY these days, and most, in my opinion, are not truly needed. Do we need a BY attached to a major star to know the difference between them and a porn actor that most of us are never going to download a profile for? Pain. In. The. A$$.

Or if you like to do it easier you right click and select "With Birth Years Only".

This is helpful - a big green thank you for the hint - but still too time consuming. I took a peek and there seems to be thousands of them that need to be removed.

The invelos database is so corrupted with invalid BYs the only easy way is to remove them all and re-enter the infinitely smaller number of valid ones.
