With all the tablet forms out today. I would love to be able to take my profiler with me on my tablet. So far I only see the Apple prducts being supported. Not sure about anyone else, but looking at my listing on a I-Touch or I-pad is too small for me. I use to use my Windows based I-Paq for the mobile program and found although it worked wel. The unit was not the greatest. I have not only the Kindle Fire, but a Vizio Tablet as well. How about a program for these as well? Everyone is getting Tablets so how bout expanding past the more expensive models of Apple ????

You're in the wrong forum. The DVDP Mobile Technical Support forum seems to be where everyone is begging for Android support these days. Also someone made an Android app you might want to try.
I doubt that there will be an official Android app anytime soon. I think the Android market is much too fragmented for Ken to effectively develop an app and customers are more reluctant to pay for Android apps. It would be much more work for less revenue.
And why do you even want support for the Kindle Fire (7") and Vizio (8" and soon 10") when the iPad (9,7") is too small for you ?

I was just thinking the same thing.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

No kidding .

Why not add support for my Garmin Zumo 665 GPS while we're at it? I think it would be cool to browse my collection while cruising down the highway on my Harley .

Now seriously, just how are you going to mount a 600 Watt 5.1 surround sound system on a Harley?

To significantly shorten the request list of supported platforms:

- All existing (with or without programmable interface)
- Legacy support for all outdated platforms (Does anyone still remember the games console by Phillips?)
- All thinkable
- All imaginable
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Yep, I'm old enough to have owned one of those.

FWIW I'd buy an Android App for DVDP in a heartbeat; used to love my Mobile version but the PalmTop has gone the way of the Dodo and now my Android phone does everything it used to do... except run a version of DVDP!

I'm not doubting that there are people willing to pay for an Android app. Otherwise there wouldn't be any requests for one here. But despite the fact that there are more Android phones in use than iPhones, apps for Android sell a lot less than their iOS versions. I only have data for Germany, but I don't think the rest of the world is so radically different as to make that data useless. In Germany Doodle Jump is number 2 on the list of bestselling apps for iPhone with 1,96 million downloads. It is number one on the Android list with 0,06 million downloads. Cut The Rope is number 8 on the iOS list with 1,02 million downloads and number 2 on the Android list with 0,04 million downloads. The Top 25 most downloaded Android apps combined are only 0,59 million downloads. The Top 25 for iOS are 21,59 million downloads. (Source) That is a huge difference. Of course DVDP is a program for a very limited user base and the differences between iOS and Android might not be as drastic in this case.

But a bigger problem is the extreme fragmentation of Android devices both in hardware and software. Some cheap Android devices are barely able to run the OS let alone any apps while others are powerful machines. Most devices are still running on Android 2.x with no hope for an upgrade to 4.0 (even successful and relatively new devices like the Galaxy S). In addition to that in many cases the manufacturers modify Android heavily for their phones. It would be a massive amount of work for Ken to develop for that market.

Obviously only Ken knows for sure and maybe he'll pop up here in a few days, dressed as the easter bunny, and announces DVDP for Android. But I wouldn't bet on it.

It's a wonder that the competition has put android apps on the market.

The competition isn't a one man operation and they cost more...at least the ones I have looked at.  When you charge more, and have more people working on things, it is easier to produce multiple products.

Ken should get money from Apple. Why: Because I always buy an iPhone and an iPad to have DVDProfiler and all my films with me. I would never change to another competitor when there is no DVDProfiler for it :-).

The day we see an Android version, I'll buy it. Apple can bugger off though.

Windows 8 for tablets will be around this fall, it should be an easy port.

Ken would need to make a new interface to work with a touchscreen. Other than that it should indeed be easy to make DVDP run on Win8 tablets.
I'm not sure there will be a big demand for Win8 tablets, though. Microsoft is clearly trying to get people familiar with the Metro UI through the desktop version and the Xbox360 dashboard in the hope those people will then buy Win8 smartphones and tablets. Unfortunately Win8 is pretty terrible as a desktop OS because it is essentially two completely different systems in one. And on the Xbox I have grown to absolutely loathe the Metro UI which is much more cumbersome to navigate than the previous dashboard.
Still, with the probably limited amount of work needed to make DVDP run on Win8 tablets, I won't be surprised by DVDP for Win8.
