There is currently a submission changing The Color of Money (UPC 717951-004277) from non-anamorphic to anamorphic.

Using Cyberlink PowerDVD with the settings on "Keep aspect ratio", here is what I have:

As you can see, the left and right is cropped.

By comparison, here is a known Anamorphic title (captured using the same settings):

Plus, every review I've read that mentions the video quality mention that it's non-anamorphic:

DVDTalk
DVD Authority
DVDMG
All Movie

Currently my vote is the only no vote, but I'm pretty sure this is a non-ana title.

You don't have to rely on the display, PowerDVD will show you the aspect ratio if you bring up the Configuration window as either 4:3 (letterbox) or 16:9 (anamorphic).

Thanks!

I'll double check that when I get home, as well as checking on my home system (that's the only thing I haven't done).

I can't help with this specific disc but generally I find it easier to tell if you don't maximise the PowerDVD window, that way you can easier tell the shape of the video display, and 4x3 (non-anamorphic) will be a lot squarer than 16x9, you should also see a lot more black bar than 16x9 too.

This movie is reported to be 4:3 Letterboxed by PowerDVD, contrary to the contributors assertions.  When you play the movie it displays as Alien indicted above and you can clearly see the 4:3 aspect ratio with  "not quite black" bars both above and below the picture (as well as on both sides.

Definitely a non-anamorphic film.

That worked, thanks!

This is the info for Color of Money:

This is for a proper anamorphic movie (Dark House):

Did that, too, thanks:

It's pretty clear this isn't anamorphic. I'll update my vote with a link to this thread.

Thanks everyone. Found out some PowerDVD tips.

Special note there are numerous tools that report this as 16 X9, however that is not the point. If you b other to read the previous the notes changing it to letterbox there was absolutely NO DOCUMENTATION to support the users claim. Ire peat there was NO DOCUMENTATION to support the claim, there fore it should NEVER have been approved to begin with, the Rules require data changes to documented. All that is being done is restoration to the previous settings which were documented many years using numerous tools, and not something simply based on some users undocumented opinion. Now am I surprised that AR missed the point positively not, he votes for undocumented changes quite often in fact.
I will quote the notes supplied by the previous user who made the change
"Once again removed 16x9 enhancement. Back cover erroneously lists it as anamorphic but it is not."

Now correct me if I am wrong but there is no documentation there and the Contribution should not have been accepted. I know the numerous tools that were used to decipher the data to begin with and that was provided to then Intervocative in the original notes. If you can't provide documentation to support the claim of changed data then it is NOT to be accepted. I look forward to Ar's change since he understands so little about any of the possible tools that can be used and obviously is satisfied with user guesses...I am not, if you want to provide data change then you follow the Rules and document it, not provide an idiotic note as above, that is worthless

It is disappointing to see that some users very clearly missed the point, despite the fact that my notes very clearly described the FACT that the prior Contribution was made with absolutely no documentation...ZERO. I am not surprised at either those users who are willing to accept undocumented data changes even though the Rules spell out that REQUIREMENT, but I am disappointed. Just another reason our database is on a dirt road right now, users simply don't care. The ruts created by these users are killing us as a group.

If you are checking by a tool, make sure to check the right thing. There are lots of titles out there with widescreen menus and fullscreen content.

Non-relevant comment, Ace. this is in reality about an unsourced data change, The OP didn't get that despite the explanation of it in the notes Nothing more or less, merely restoring data that was changed without any sort of documentation at all. I have no problem with changing data as long as you document it and not make a claim such as this prior user did

No matter how you spin it, the person who changed it to non-anamorphic was correct.

No, he wasn't and neither was your YES vote for unsupported data changes, Alien. Follow the Rules. You want to correct it again WITH proper documentation I will happily vote Yes, no documentation jus your wild-eyed claim, then I will vote No every time. The Rules SAY to provide documentation to support data changes, Alien, I don't say that they do and I follow them. Your record clearly indicates otherwise, that's not an attack but a statement of fact, sir.

Sorry Alien

Contribution Notes

When you contribute a changed profile, you are required to include Contribution Notes. Use the space to enter full explanations for all changes and/or additions that you make. Make special reference to any changes where:

    * You have verified there is a discrepancy between the box and the actual content of the DVD - include your verification method.
    * You are making a subtle change that may be hard to spot - for example spelling correction to the overview.
    * You are removing incorrect information.

Please explain to me how either the above described Contribution Note OR your previous Yes vote or anyone else's for that matter comport with the above Rule. It's not spin, sir, the Rule was ignored, plain and simple and the damage must be corrected while waiting for proper verification

For me, the point is that you submitted a contribution to change correct information to incorrect information and then went further to cite several tools to support that change, when in fact those tools, PowerDVD in particular, showed precisely the opposite of what you claimed.  DVDShrink does not show aspect ration at all!  So your support was apparently fabricated in your contribution.  Hopefully, Ken will take note of the fact that you made up support, in an attempt to deceive the voters with false claims, and that should most certainly be adequate cause to have contribution privileges revoked.

Simply wrong, Hal. I submit the same challenge to you. How does the prior Contribution Note or your prior Yes vote comport with the above quoted Rule. Or did you simply ignore the FACT that there was verification method (documentation) provided, this would not be a first either. But if you really believe that the prior user or yourself followed the Rules....well you better get your glasses changed. LOL, attempt at humor

The fact is that the contribution correcting this to non-anamorphic WAS accepted.  To change it again requires proper documentation, which you chose to fabricate.  It is NEVER acceptable to submit wrong data in the place of correct data, no matter what the circumstances were that got the data into the database in the first place.
