There are certain releases here in the UK which are also distributed to other countries in Europe. When inserting the disc in the player, before getting to the main menu, it gives you a menu to select your country. Different MC are responsible for different countries and only those responsible for your choice of country are shown.

When contributing, should we use all available MC or only that of the locality of the profile?

edit: I've read over the Rules but couldn't see this covered.

Yes. If it's on the disc, why not include it?

Only include the media company/companies of the disc's locality, of course.

Why would we, for instance, include a DVD distributor from another country, that didn't actually distribute the disc you have in your hand? Similarly, we only enter the SRP of that disc for that particular locality, right? We don't store the SRP for that same disc in other localities. Why then would we do that for other fields? It just doesn't make sense. Just track the data for that locality.

IMO the media company should come from the cover not the disc. Companies from other localities are usually not listed on the cover.

Why not include all Overview languages on multi-language covers?

That would be best and in this instance you would indeed be correct about them not being listed -

UK version -

German version -

The UK release is Optimum Home Releasing and the German version is Kinowelt.

Despite the German version giving a lot more information, the UK version does indeed include the other audio & subtitle tracks.

The Media Company field is not only for the distributor but for the publishers and licensors as well. I do believe that the companies responsible for the content of the DVD ought to be added. This is also covered by the Rules.

So if the added media companies are only responsible for the distribution of this DVD in other countries (localities) I wouldn't add them. If those media companies are also responsible for the content of the DVD I would add them.

And in Sweden the distributor is Universal Pictures, but all are StudioCanal.

This sounds like the best option to me.  The only time I look on the disc for the MC is when none is present on the case, which doesn't happen very often.

Of course if there is no MC on the cover, I would as well fall back to the disk.

Thanks for that. I missed Sweden as I only looked at the front cover and thought it might've been a completely separate release!! Oops!!

Many thanks to everyone who gave opinions & voted.

Why not include all Overview languages on multi-language covers?

Because that is explicitly against The Rules.

Indeed and that is the point. The situation is identical. By not including another localities set up in situation A but including it under B you're (general, not specific) just confusing the matter.

If a particular company is responsible in a locality then yes, they should be entered. However this isn't the case here. By listing them, you're suggesting that they in some way play a part in distribution in one country when in fact they aren't.

So the country of the principal offices of the Media Company has to match the locality? Just like the location of the Production Company determines the Country of Origin?

That is my point of view.

Investigating (and proving!) for each Media Company that it was responsible for the "creating, assembling and ordering" of the DVD content? Disproving each time that the Media Company wasn't a "Content Publisher", "Secondary Publisher", "Licensor", "Home Video Rights" holder, or only "Distributor"?  When some companies "using similar but different names" "may serve more than one function"? Where to take the Media Company from, by The Rules, only cover, cover and disc imprint, cover and disc imprint but not disc content?

Seems quite complicated.

Here though it's clear who is responsible by which logos appear when selecting each locality. Any responsible are shown, any not, don't. The cover also backs this up.

Can I assume that based on your opinion, you will submit the addition of Optimum to the German profile as well?
