I'm currently editing the Canadian blu-ray profile for Any Given Sunday.

This specific topic has been brought up before (and the topic in regards to this film has probably been brought up before).

The way the cast is listed is two colums. One on the left hand side of the screen, one on the right hand side of the screen:

They way the current cast list sits is a rotating order between the left and right columns, which is mind bogglingly difficult to figure out, especially now that we have these absolutely awesome group dividers that we're able to enter into the cast and crew.

The cast currently looks something like this:

Al Pacino - Role
Steve Raulerson - Role
Cameron Diaz - Role
Oliver Stone - Role
Dennis Quaid – Role

etc. etc.

Besides the fact that I believe the data is presented to us in a way that we’re supposed to look at the left hand column as a whole, and then the right hand column (I mean really, are they going to shove Steve Raulerson in between Al Pacino and Cameron Diaz? The guy has never had a single starring role in any film he’s ever been in), things get complicated when we hit group dividers, such as the one you see in that screen cap of Cap Rooney’s Children. The profile currently goes back and forth between the left and right columns and takes away the plural of children and lists them as “Cap Rooney’s Child” with roles from the left column in between them.  To me, this is an obvious distortion of the data presented to us onscreen, as they’re all presented together, under a group header in the cast listings. I believe that this profile should have the cast listed from the left column first, and then the right column.

I know there’s the argument that in the theatre you can’t rewind and review the cast, but that’s the glory of DVD and blu-ray, you can rewind and review the data.

Just wanted to grab opinions on which way you think the cast should be listed:

Left column and then right column
Or
Right and left columns combined (ignoring group dividers)

Either way, at this point, with the cast looking so incredibly messed up, I’m going to go left and then right in my local, but didn’t want to submit it if it’s going to cause a ruckus.

Thanks!
The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play.

Dammit!!!!

Is there anyway to edit your poll options?

The first option should read:

Left column first, followed by right column.

Sorry, if you vote for that, you're voting for left column first.

Dammit.

I was wondering about this option, but then I read the op complete and noticed the mistake. I don't think there's an option for editing. Btw, you're not the first.

My vote is going for first left group, then right with dividers if needed. This is what is the most logical for me.

The screenshot seems to indicate that the Left column of credits are meant to be first, so I would enter the cast that way.

I voted "Right Column first, followed by left column" and that's what I meant.

None of this "Left column first, followed by right column" nonsense.

Okay, no I agree with the Left column first, followed by right column. I'm just kidding. Hugs?

That's actually my secret agenda.

That way when I submit the contribution I can link to the poll and say "See!!! Everyone agrees! RIGHT column first!!!"

The left column of Cast and roles should be first, then the right, at least that's the way I see it. IMHO.

Add me to the list of Left first, then Right.

There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.

Ditto. This is not the first time for this. Simple way to think aboutit, in the theater you would read left to right. Why. Because you don't luxury of stopping the film when you get to the bottom andgoing back to read the second column. Simple

This is kinda strange. There was a discussion about this just a few months ago and if I recall correctly, the result of the poll was the exact opposite of this. (Can't find the thread though)

Back in May 2009 we also had a poll about this with this result

Why are things different now? I also voted for the left column first, then the right (as I did back then), but I guess that some has changed their opinion. What has changed? Are you deciding this on a credit by credit basis?

I don't see much problem with this. As the credits are obviously in some sort of priority order (Pacino, Diaz, Quaid, Woods) it makes sense if the whole left column is first THEN the whole right column.

Note also: less important roles such as 'Cap Rooney's Children' in the right column. Roles usually seen much lower in the Credits listing when not in alphabetical order.

No this one is a completely different issue for a much bigger list than the one in the poll, reybr. Like i said in this list you can' read Column one and then go BACK and read Column 2. I don't think any projectionist would allow you to do that. In the example you described you have three separate such groupings On Screen with plenty of time to read Column to Column.

GreyHulk really. You can get the projectionist to do that for you when you see it in the theater.  Hmmm maybe they need to put buttons at the theater seats so that watchers can request a rewind.

If you're thinking of the same thread I am, then I'd say that with that one the sections were staggered between left & right unlike this one where they're in line.

I think that sometimes they need to be done on a case by case basis although I'm not a fan of conditionals.

Then call me stupid, cause to me it looks like you're saying that you would go for option 1 in this poll, but argue for option 2. (Might be a language issue though)
