Good day, Sirs,

if the credits read Based on a story by, is the correct writing entry
"Original Material By" (= Based on [anything] by) or "Story by"?

Love, bbbbb

Previous discussion on the topic

Thanks for your answers, Sirs, and thanks for pointing to that discussion, I didn't remember it.

In my case "The Story" the film is based on was an article by a british journalist, previously published in a magazine.

The context helps a lot: OMB it is.

OMB...always.

Per the Rules:

"Based on [anything] by" = OMB

So, am I to understand that includes "Based on Original Characters Created by" as well? Or are things not exactly as black and white as you make it seem?

That was definitely an oversight by Ken, which currently allows OCB credits to be entered in the wrong field.

I don't know why it is taking him so long to simply add OCB to the "not allowed" credits for OMB.

A very simple fix.

But, Tim, you go right ahead and put them in the OMB field, if that's what you want to do.

I'll put them in the OCB field where they belong, and are still permitted.

But they aren't hal, wow now we are into selective reading. At leaast I am consistent

Now understand Hal, I agree with you, but you are one trying to argue that Based on Something CREATED By is OMB and the Rules state "Based on [anything] By=OMB"

Now like I said I also think it is Original Characters By not OMB, but you are now being inconsistent with your own arguments. And it is permitted locally, but not by the Rules.

Can't say I am surprised though. I believe you are beginning to see the light...maybe.

As will I, Tim. As I have said this modification to the Rules was made based on the suggestion of a SINGLE user and it was done without ANY discussion, it needs to be REVERSED. But it's just one more reason why i domn't contribute any longer or very nearly don't.     Not by my own choice but I can't deal with inconsistency.

Per the crew table, OCB can be entered in the OCB field.  "Based on Star Trek created by...." cannot.
