Since we now include PAL/NTSC in the main profile, should we also tick anamorphic video?

(I'm asking since it doesn't exist for Blu-ray/HD DVD features, but neither does PAL/NTSC.)

Good question.

I would have preferred to have left the NTSC/PAL out for the main profile, but that is not an option. If we have to use it, then we may as well be accurate about it.

Yeah, I noticed that as well. I agree with Bob, probably should've been left off for the main profile. I wouldn't tick it as that's covered under the DVD child profile I would think.

If that is the general opinion (and I agree) it would probably be a good idea to gray out the option in combo profiles. Since the main feature will NEVER be anamorphic.

Agrred, the only time this might present a problem is a Single-Sided Double (or more) feature with each film having different video specs.<groan>

I think this might be a bug that wasn't caught, for Combo Blu-ray & DVD or HD DVD & DVD.  Where the Blu-ray or HD DVD is the primary the program really shouldn't automatically select NTSC or PAL as that should be covered by the DVD child profile.

When making contributions for the Combo profiles should we really be contributing the Video Format until we hear more from Ken?  As most of these profiles should already be correct for the Blu-ray or HD DVD.

I asked Ken about it in the beta-release forum, but as it was only a couple hours before the big release it may have been to late to deal with. In any case I didn't get an answer. If it was decided that NTSC/PAL should not be contributed for combo packs, even if it is selected automatically, I would not be averse. It might be hard to enforce however for anyone who does not frequent the forums.

If we're going to put all the data on a child profile, I'm not sure what the point of flagging two media types even is.

Actually, some releases are a DVD with bonus Blu-Ray, so the main feature will be anamorphic.

Not sure what you mean here, Ace. A combo almost by definition contains multiple media (not including CDs or DigiCopies), DVD+Hd or  DVD+BD and  the permutations thereof. The data for the two copies will be in large part the same more than likely, but there will be significant differences in Features, Video, Audio, etc, etc, etc. While I doubt it, based on experiience (I will rule out NOTHING) it may even be possible that we might at some point see some different credits between a HD medium and a SD medium....I hope not...if we do will run screaming into the streets and pull the few remaining hairs i have left. But because the differences do exist and are significant the only way to keep the data useable and identifiable is to creat Parent-Child sets so that each medium will  be able to be appropriately handled.

You can thank Disney for this, kino. It has not been done a lot...yet. But they started it last year with Snow White and now have repeated it wit TS and TS2 where they release a BD+DVD and a DVD+BD, in the case of Snow White there were different UOPCs and covers. TS and TS2 are different UPCs, I don't know if the Covers are much different or at all save for the DVD+BD or BD +DVD, don't ask me why they did this. I hope the fleas of thousand camels nest in the armpits of the people responsible for this scheme. I expect we will see it repeated in the Fall with Beauty and the Beast. Atleast, that I know about, they did not completely duplicate Snow White, they released at least 6 different variants ranging from $20 US to $150 US.

Yeah so far, it looks like those that have been contributing the multiple media types have also been contributing the video format NTSC or PAL as well.  Even though they don't need to contribute that information

Yeah, guilty. I have done a handful before I started wondering about it.

I am also wondering if there is a way to identify (as in the case of the Disney releases) whether the BD or the DVD is primary. I guess it doesn't matter as long as the case type is correct... But I would like to get some sort of official word on how to handle NTSC/PAL and anamorphic when contributing this combo packs down the line. My thinking is we shouldn't unless the DVD is primary, but I will go along with whatever is decided.

Well I found that even if you don't tick the video formats when contributing multiple media types it contributes it anyway.
