There is a major problem on disc 3 of Alf: Season 4

Disc 3 omits two episodes and duplicates two episodes found on disc 4.

Found this on dvdtalk forum which explains the problem in more detail.

Quote:

Here are the episodes as found on the discs.

Disc 1 and 2 are fine.

Disc 3:
13. Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades
14. Love on the Rocks
15. True Colors
16. Gimme That Old Time Religion
17. I Gotta Be Me
18. When I'm Sixty-Four

Disc 4:
19. When I'm Sixty-Four
20. Mr. Sandman
21. Stayin' Alive
22. Hungry Like A Wolf
23. I Gotta Be Me
24. Consider Me Gone

Episodes "When I'm Sixty-Four" And "I Gotta Be Me" are duplicated on disc 3 and 4.

According to the episode list on IMDB Episodes 13 & 14 should be "It's My Party" and "Make 'Em Laugh" - which aren't on any of the discs.
Those two should be on disc 3 and "When I'm 64" and "I Gotta Be Me" are correctly on disc 4.

So disc 3 is the problem.

And according to the next post Lionsgate is sending out replacement discs with the correct episodes on disc 3.

So the question I have is the following.

How to profile disc 3 of Alf: Season 4?

To profile the error disc or wait and profile the corrected replacement disc?

Which one is the correct one to profile and contribute?

Probably the replacement disc will have a new ID, so you can submit both, or only one of them.

If it has it's own UPC, submit the corrected disc.  But for completeness and for user experience, I'd submit a disc-level profile for both the old and the new disc 3.

Edited to remove: For the box set, use the corrected disc's info.

The profiles, for the Box Set, should match what was included in the box at the time it was sold.  You can, however, create a new profile for the replacement disc...assuming it has a new disc ID.

There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.

Agree. This is what matches to our first release doing. Even if something is wrong we use what is released at first.

As the others have noted and as I have noted in other threads, the problem you describe is not a defect it is an ERROR and the error was release for sale to the public. Will everyone  who purchased the mistake get the correction, maybe, maybe not, some might go out and by a whole other set just so they can own the Error and the correction. No different from any other form of collectig be it Comics, DVDs, Stamps, Coins....mistakes can be valuable. defects don't play.

My personal opinion is that the disc that the publisher intended to release should be the one profiled.

Just to alleviate your confusion, Rick. Profile the error disc that was released for sale. Depending on the physical configuration this will be done either via (DiscID) or UPC (sometimes). Fior those that obtain the replacement disc they can then create  a NEW profile based upon that DiscID since it will be different from the originally released disc. Thus BOTH bases are covered.

Except for one small issue, Tim, we don't do that. But we CAN capture both sets of information thus user can do as they wish, including those that choose to keep the error disc.

I understand what to do I just didn't understand what you said. No one mentioned anything about a defect or called it a defect until you said it "not a defect it's an ERROR", which is what the op called it when he asked how to profile it.

It would be like saying "an apple a day keeps the doctor away" and getting a reply "you shouldn't eat oranges you should eat an APPLE if you want to keep the doctor away"

...hence the

The new disc will have to get a new disc ID. Why not just list all in the box set contents of the parent?

I think it should be noted that according to what I've read that it's a widespread problem.

Just because it's widespread doesn't mean that it affects the majority of sets out there. It could very well affect only a small amount of sets out.

However there are reports that there are sets that aren't affected by this error and do contain the correct episodes on disc 3.

I was just unlucky enough to get one of the error discs.

I have no idea how widespread the problem is or even if it affects the majority of the sets out there.

Cubby:

None of that is relevant. Even if you got the ONLY error, still not relevant, it's a mistake, and sometimes mistakes such as this (no matter what you are collecting) can be exceedingly valuable and should be profiled just like any other disc. I wouldn't evenworry about it were i you, i would probably hope that everybody turned their errors in. I still have the Original released error of BTTF II, I also have the recently released version, I hope everybody turned the Original error diisc in, it makes mine, hopefully, MORE valuable., and i am all for that.
