I just ask myself what we are doing here.
The reason for this:
I have a pending contribution for a german release of "The Reader", where the existing scans (even though they are very good) don't match the release (the backcover doesn't even show the correct EAN).
My attempt to correct this, with admittedly scans in a worse quality (I'm still trying to find out how my new scanner works  ) got "No"-votes that I thought I'd share to teach us all what is really important.

Quoting User A:
Quote:
old cover scans better

Which is completely correct, as I already stated in my contribution notes, nevertheless the old scans are incorrect.
I sent this user a PM explaining him the reason for my change. Result: None.

Quoting User B:
Quote:
keep older scans nonetheless, please don't be holier than the pope. I don't mind the wrong EAN.

I think this one can be left uncommented.

The topping on the cake are the contribution notes for the scans (from the yet unchanged initial contribution):

Quoting User C:
Quote:
[...] made new cover scans for the new upc

Which might have happened, but obviously he forgot the upload.

So, all you nerds in this forum (me included) who actually dispute over the correct parsing of an actor, this may teach us a lesson, doesn't it.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

If the two scans are identical other than the EAN, I'd be tempted to overlay your barcode onto the existing scan.

I thought about this too,
sadly the overview is slightly different.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Yeah I just downloaded it, about two extra words! More reason that your scan should be accepted at this time.

Yes.

Nothing to add on the problem described (think that one's pretty self explanitory), but to the question in the title:

Yes. Absolutely. Without a doubt in my mind.

There's varying levels of course (won't say who's who...  ), but yup. Nerds.
The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play.

Your scans should be accepted Goblin, and the user voting no based on that he doesn't mind the wrong UPC should have his voting priveleges withdrawn.

Oh - and to answer your question in the subject field: Yes - we are!

Wrong! goblinsdoitall should get some more praxis with his scanner and contribute a scan from the correct release which is of better (or at least par) quality than the existing one. Voting no to a substandard quality cover scan is not against any voting rules regardless whether the existing cover may have the wrong UPC or not.

P.S. I agree that the existing cover should have never been accepted into the database though. But as a matter of fact it is there and as it seems of good quality and mostly the same as the correct cover except maybe some details and the UPC.

Wrong, Rho. The Rule is the rules, and it clearly states that the UPC MUST match the image. But this is now academic since it was accepted. So, perhaps YOU can do a better sxcan with the correct UPC. That would be better than encouraging ignoring the Rule and i have no doubt that IF you can do better that goblins be only too happy to vote for it.

I'm not from Germany, but in my mind, the correct scans would be yours as they of the actual covers for this version.

As to the forum title: I'm not a nerd, wait, I hear one of my Blu-rays calling me, I'll be right back...it's OK now, it just needed a hug.

It's not wrong, any way you cut it, and you might consider re-reading the rules if you are under that impression. If the exisiting scans does not match the UPC of the profile they should be removed, regardless of the quality of the new scans.

Me? A nerd? How can I even contimplate myself as one? I mean; I watch movies; post on forums; when I am not watching movies and not working I am playing video games. When I asked my wife if I was  a nerd she even said..."No baby, your just a dork." So, in conclusion I am a dork... not a nerd. Life is good!

Of course you're all nerds! Collecting DVDs, argueing 15 sides about sometimes dumb themes, hanging out in in the forum instead of meeting real people, ...

Back to topic: Scans should always match. (The Rules are clear)
And even if the scans aren't the best and you get No-Votes (unberechtigt), the chances are good, that the scan will be accepted.
If you wrote the matter in your notes, the screener will do the right.
