Does it seem ridiculous to anyone besides me that there is an online profile with 1238 uncredited cast members, 1200+ of which have either no role assigned, or a role of either "Extra" or "Featured Player", and no documentation at all as to how any of this came to be contributed?  It appears to me that this has all been lifted straight from IMDB:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0048960/fullcredits#cast

I've made a few attempts in the past to remove uncredited cast from profiles with inadequate documentation, but have been met with considerable opposition so I'm not anxious to tackle this one, but I wondered what people think about what I hope is a pretty extreme example of uncredited cast run amuck.

I knew it would be this title straight away... I looked at it earlier this week, thought "screw this" and moved on.

It's because you can remove the uncredited cast for the profile that were in the old database. It was a decision of Ken since it was not needed to document this before (maybe I'm wrong, so if an old timer want to correct me you can go for it) and because of this those profiles are treated differently.

If you take note of the release date this data predates the Rules and the days when we were forbidden to use another source. You might consider it ridiculous, I might and so might the Original Contributor. As I recall he spent MANY hours entering that data and editing it, don't touch it. Not to mention that there are many golden nuggets in that list.

I can promise you that I will vote No to any attempted removal and i suspect i will not be alone.

Of that I have no doubt.  It's still ridiculous.

Like i said I might agree and so might the Original Contributor. he was in a bad mood for a week after he finished it. It was also one of the last movies from Hollywood that trumpeted a cast of thousands. We have the proof.

I believe that profiles brought over from the previous site do not have contribution data.
We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own.

Yes, I know, though it would have been 'interesting' to read through contribution notes documenting the inclusion of 1200 + uncredited cast members.

Yes they have, but you need the version 2.X for seeing (?) the contribution notes.

edit : it was an answer to the post of Srehtims

Just for giggles, I arbitrarily clicked on one of those names (Roy Yoshimara) to see what else IMDB has for them.  Wonder of all wonders, this is their only credit.  The only movie credit they have is an undocumented, uncredited appearance as an extra in this movie.  Gold nuggets indeed.  The only proof we have regarding this cast of thousands is that we are good copy and pasters.

The old contribution note from DVDP 2.X, but it seems even older than that and I've no idea of how to get those real old one...

Let's see here
Philip Ahn
Richard Aherne

To name only two that i recognized right off the bat.

Also as I said this was before were not allowde to use another source and before the Rules. I will also defend the Hours and Hours that were invested by the original Contributor, which was not me. Were it you that contributed the data, i would be just as defensive of your invested work. So please leave it alone, drop it and don't inflame this any further. Please. Thank you.

Sooo, we're holding on to this because a long time ago some poor shlub wasted countless hours entering it in?  Whatever happened to verifying that the data is even correct?  Coming from an advocate of database integrity, that's about the weakest excuse for holding onto data that I've ever heard.

I don't really expect anything to change here, it's one of the reasons I no longer bother with this nonsense.  I just find the selective hypocrisy pretty darn funny and can't help but point it out.

I see polite requests do no good around here, why am I not surprised.

OK for your information midnit, way back when we were discussing, with Ken, the issue of (uncredited) data from the past, I was in favor of summarily removing the data and starting over. Ken said that he did not want to do that because there are nuggets of gold in that thar data and he did not want to lose it just to clear the decks. I disagreed with him but I also understood his position. It's his program, case closed. Now can we please stop pouring gasoline on this fire...PLEASE!

I recognize the hours of work that went into this, personally speaking, in fact i remember teasing the contributor about being a really, really sick man. I think when he was done he spent at least awhile muttering to himself. I would have been ready for a strait jacket or some new meds from Nurse Ratched.   If that were your work midnit, given the same circumstances I would defend your work as well for precisely the same reasons.

Assuming that is what you meant, this is a popular myth, but a myth none the less.  Ken never said anything of the kind.  What he said was, there is no reason for wholesale removal, of uncredited cast, simply because you think it might have come from IMDb.  He has never said that profiles, prior to a certain date, are treated any differently.  If he had, you can believe that someone would have posted that statement here as proof.

That's what I've always understand when those pre-DVDP 3.0 were discussed... Because the old note haven't made the migration with the profile we can't be sure if they were documented or not. Just for this one I checked the DVDP 2.x note and it was even older than that. Like I say it's the impression I've always got, but you sure confuse me since you are usually very reliable for those facts
