I see several contributions that just change Rating System from Film to Television. Ok, but is that really adding "significant value" to the database when the title is Not Rated?

It somehow reminds me of this old story:
- Can I have a coffee, sugar, no milk
- Sorry, we're out of milk. Would you settle for a coffee, sugar, no cream?

I mean, if a title is Not Rated, does it matter who didn't rate it?

Sure it does, Gunnar. A Television Series is not a movie. Its not about who didn't rate it, it is about accurately defined data.

In my opinion, absolutely.

Besides the fact that it's correct data, and why would anyone want to keep correct data out of the system?

I've had a whole slew of submissions come through for my collection simply to change the rating system from film to television. Happy to see every one of 'em!
The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play.

I absolutely think it adds value. First of all it is more accurate.... and to me accuracy = significant Plus For those of us that do collect a crap-load of television (I collect just as much TV release as I do movies... if not more)... I hope this will help with the filtering and such some day soon.

so like Merrik I am happy to see them come through! And I put through as many as I can find myself. Though I will add/correct other stuff with it when I see it needs it... if there is nothing else I see the profile needs I will not think twice about uploading it by itself.

I do not mind the changes of "Film->Television", but if we are honest, this is not entirely correct (at least for US TV releases). The episodes themselves usually have a Television rating, it is just not mentioned on the case anywhere in those cases. But they do not have a Film rating and this is why on their cases they have a "Not Rated" on it.

But just like Pete I do not mind the changes because these changes can help for filtering.

For knowing that it was made for Television, we have Television as a genre.

The Film/Television rating system just tells us what rating system was used. If it's Not Rated, then no rating system was used. So it's pretty meaningless information.

I don't mind people changing it as part of a wider contribution. I just feel that it's not really useful to clutter the contribution system with this change alone.

My guess is that when it's showed on TV, it's rated by the channel showing it, as both kids and old people may watch it. Therefore they rate it to let people know what to expect and not get offended.

On a DVD, most people know what they have or at least don't accidently see it, so it's not that important to rate it.

You have to remember not everyone thinks the way you do. Just because it is meaningless information to you does not mean it is meaningless information to everyone. Having the NR rating in the correct rating system makes it more accurate (in my opinion)... it being more accurate makes it a significant change (once again in my opinion). Ken put the NR rating in both rating systems... that alone tells me that it is meant to be used. We have a rating filter which will hopefully take all rating systems into account before too long. Then there will be even more reason to use it then there is now.

Well, some of us dissagree with Television being a genre in the first place. Afterall, television is not a genre, it's a medium.

Ok, I guess we just disagree on this.

To me, this is as useless as knowing if my black coffee is without milk or without cream.

The correct way to do this - in my opinion- would have been to disable Rating System when Not Rating was selected. That would have been correct information; the title is not rated therefore no rating system was used.

True, but as we all know, DVD Profiler usage does not always correspond to the normally accepted definition of a specific term. In Profiler usage, Televison is a genre. And it is the way we have kept track of made-for-TV titles, so there's no point in changing that now.

That's like saying that milk and cream are both dairy products, but that doesn't make them any more relevant when it comes to black coffee.

Film Ratings and Televison Ratings are both part of the rating system, but doesn't make them relevant to a Not Rated title.

Have to agree with you there.  It's the same with anime and animation, both are also mediums, not genres.

Yup... he has now made it part of the rating system... as well as kept it part of the genres. I personally am happy with it the way it is now... showing in both places. But if Ken chooses to remove it from the genre I am ok with that. Though I would like to be able to filter between Television Releases and Film Releases (without needing to use tags that is).

Some of us sees value in the information.
