| Posted: | | | | OK Somehow, on my wife's laptop, I was able to get a serial number for a child disc. Any insight into what may be going on?
XP Home vs XP Pro, three different DVD drives, same version of DVD Profiler.
I'm baffled. |

| Posted: | | | | Seems rather obvious. On the other PC(s) you tried before you have some obtrusive software running that is blocking DVDProfiler from reading the disc-ID.
It will most likely not be the difference in OS that causes this. | | | My DVD's

| Posted: | | | | I had a similar problem with a series of copy protected discs, all from one company. I could not read disc ID with the DVD-RW that I mostly used, but when I tried this with an older type DVD player (in the same desktop machine) I could read them. Maybe the older types ignore te copy protection.
Also, Amazon's recent releases of TV series on DVD-R occasionally give problems when trying to read the disc ID. These discs are supposedly not for use in PC equipment. | | | Hans |

| Posted: | | | | DVD Decrypter, AnyDVD, other programs of this nature can cause this problem. They need to be shut down when trying to read disc IDs. | | | "This movie has warped my fragile little mind." |

T have tried every DVD drive on my main machine: CD burner/DVD Rom - Samsung (?) , DVD/CD SL burner - Sony, DVD/CD DL burner - LiteOn. Zero luck. Everything from "older than dirt" to within a couple years of age. As for Amazon releases (? why would this apply, not purchased at Amazon): DVD itself tries to launch viewing software when put into a computer DVD drive. I doubt this is the issue. |

It will most likely not be the difference in OS that causes this. If it was obvious, the origin thread would not be three screens long. Other thread this issueI'm also not running anything new or different (unless it's loading in the background. Process Explorer says there isn't. Still baffled. | | | Last edited: by Fingerlakes Dave |

Still baffled. Have you tried what I said there on page 3? | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | If it is just this specific set of disc(s) causing the problem couldn't you just backup and transfer the profiles to your wife's machine (which you said could read the IDs), add the IDs and then transfer the profiles back and restore them to your main machine.
If your just trying to solve the ID reading problem it almost has to be software. They can't be read by any drive on your machine but can be read on another. Therefore the discs have readable IDs and it is apparently isolated to your machine. I have no suggestions beyond what the other have recommended...just thinking aloud.
Will DVDp run in Safe Mode? That would eliminate all the start up stuff. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

| Posted: | | | | Are you running AVG anti-virus. I know that might still have processes running after you end the main program; which will block some files, and maybe DVDs as well. |
