| Posted: | | | | I have a DVD that the DVD Profiler database doesn't recognize but it is in imdb. Is there a way to download the data from there or any other source rather than key it in by hand? | | | Last edited: by Zogger |

| Posted: | | | | Thanks and I looked at a number of other programs which catalog DVD's. Most of them got their info from imdb or Amazon so am surprised that it's a copyright issue. So is there any other place to obtain info legally? |

| Posted: | | | | You will also notice that the other programs to which you refer are considerably more expensive than Profiler, this goes to cover the cost of licensing data from IMDb. Now let me ask you a simple question. If, in your view IMDb is the answer and they already exist, then why does ANY software need to be written, why clone the most inaccurate database in the world, you can track 10,00 titles at IMDb for free<shrugs> As for your specific question, this is a USER-built database...YOU are a user. So...when you run into a title that iis not in the database...you read our Contribution Rules, then you build the Profile to those Rules and Contribute the data...and poof you're title will be added...and don't forget to provide documentation to support your data. | Posted: | | | | My bad for assuming I was buying something other than what I got, i.e., commercial software. BTW the other programs were all in the same general price range of $30-40. I bought this one over programs like Movie Collector because I liked the user interface better and the features seemed to be pretty much the same. Since I'm new to this arena I guess it's the price of learning and I'm not ready to head off in another direction yet. |

Profiler uses it's own user built db instead of paying a fee to use IMDb's user built database. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions. | | | Last edited: by ? |

You made a good choice, Profiler is best program there is of this type, I have checked out all of them I can find and will continue to check them out as I find them. Profiler is built upon ACTUAL data which has a verifiable source for accuracy, the ACTUAL film, not some user-generated idea of what is or is not accurate, we also document all of our data in a form of bibliograpohy(Contribution Notes) that ALL users have access to for reference, not something that somebody pulled out of hat that has no supporting data attached to it. Profiler is predictably experiencing growing pains, but in the long-run this will be the single most accurate source for DVD/Film data avaialble and in many ways it already is. I haven't checked in a while, but last time I did you had to pay for upgrades with the other programs. With Profiler the upgrades to the program are free. | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 |
