This contribution of mine has just been declined. Was it because of the Genre change? (was: TV-Comedy-Drama, changed to TV-Comedy). Or because of the Running time? How should I rewrite it? What about TV-Comedy-Romance?

I haven't received any email or PM by Invelos.
A few minutes ago I checked My Profile-Contributions and there it says "Declined".

There were a Yes vote and a No vote (I discussed it over with that person by PM).

Just looking at what you have here I would guess it is because of the run time... the rules state...

Quote:
Use the Running time specified on the DVD cover unless you can verify there is a discrepancy between that and the actual Running time. When contributing an accurate, DVD-based, time from the DVD, round down from 29 seconds and up from 30 seconds in the nearest minute. Include your verification method in your Contribution Notes. For instance, note that a given movie has an actual Running time of 119: 37, Running time would be 120 even if the case said 119 or 121.

you used an approximate time. was this set already done with an accurate time in the method described above? if so the running time change would be against the rules.

The rules also say not to change the genres unless they are blatantly wrong. I personally don't see TV-Comedy-Drama being blatantly wrong. So that could be a problem too.

The original Runtime was 22 Mins. , as on cover back ("Each episode 22 Mins. approx.").
But there are 24 episodes in the box set.

Maybe... But is really it the problem? That wasn't the only update to the profile. And I guess "TV-Comedy" or "TV-Comedy-Romance" are far better Genres for Friends.

Like I said in PM... In my view, each and every scene in Friends is mainly intended to provoke laughter, i.e. Comedy (apart a couple of "serious" scenes in the Tenth series).

But then, *if* I were to add a second Genre for Friends, I would rather choose Romance, that is "dwelling on the elements of romantic love" as Wikipedia puts it

I don't know... as I said... I am guessing here.

on the back of the case it says the running time is approximately 22 minutes per episode? that in itself is a little weird... but could be because region 1 is different. Every set I have seen has given an approx. total time on the sets. but anyway it does say that if you deviate from the case to do it as described which means checking the length of every episode and adding them together to get an accurate time. so the way you did it could of caused the decline

As for the genres... it is not like you are just adding one.. but deleting one to add something different To do that the existing one must be considered blatantly wrong.... like having war or horror or something far off like that for a sitcom. In my opinion Drama on a sitcom isn't so far off that it is blatantly wrong.

As I said... this is just guessing and my opinion on what you put. I could be wrong... only Gerri could tell you for sure.

Have to agree on the genre thing.  Set whatever you want locally, but your change to the online wasn't correct.

I don't understand where you are getting your time from.  Is this off the back of the slip cover of the box set for a whole season?  If so, that figure should be an aggragate of all the episodes.  In this case, it should be roughly 528 minutes.

A standard half hour sit-com contains 22 minutes of show, and 8 minutes of commercials and other breaks (44 min. and 16 min. for an hour-long show).  Those are industry standards for broadcast TV and most cable channels.  I've never seen one that just listed it as 22 min. per episode.

I didn't need to see proof... I believed you.. was just surprised by it. I am just saying since it is like that and you had to add all episodes together to get the right length that maybe it was because you just did an approximate and not an accurate total length.

I see your point, but there are just three fields available.
Is Friends "Television"?
Is Friends "Comedy"?
Is Friends about love and "Romance" or is it "Drama"?

Manually check the running time on each episode, add them together, and then resubmit - that's the way to do it...

that doesn't matter... everyone has there own opinion... and the rule is there so that there isn't constant ping ponging of contributions. So unless it is so completely wrong that it is laughable... such as having horror or war or something like that it must be a local only change. So you tried it... and it sounds like the screeners (Ken and /or Gerri) disagree with you.... that it isn't blatantly wrong... so that info shoulld stay local only.

Since you asked my opinion I personally don't think romance or drama is a very good fit... and would personally leave it at Television and Comedy. But don't think either would be so wrong as to contribute a change.

Ok. I was surprised as well!

To sum up:
The profile in the online database says runtime 22 mins.
I changed that to 528 (24x22), but my contribution was declined.

Agreed that's the best way.
Still, 528 Mins. is based on the "22 Mins. per episode" on the box.
