In a box set, should the child adopt the edition of the parent

For example the parent says "Movie Series" 2 movie collection

should the child say "Movie 1" 2 movie collection
or "Movie 2" 2 movie collection

This seems a little counter intuitive to me, for the child is definitely not a 2 movie collection...

I would agree that it is counter intuitive.  The edition should be for the parent only.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

That doesn't make any sense, the child is part of the same case with the same edition listed on it.

If it's helpful, I would add it.

For a "2 movie collection" I would probably drop it. Who cares?

The intention of the edition field from the rules:
Quote:
The Edition field is for distinguishing between DVDs, and for indicating special versions and collections

That's exactly the case here!

If you own another version of the title, which is included with such a box set, then the difference is important, since most of this box-set-titles don't inlcude all bonus materials. It would be usefull to see the 2-Movie-Collection edition in the overview, to differentiate the different releases...

Therefore I'd vote for copying the edition from the parent to all children.
Complete list of Common Names  •  A good point for starting with Headshots (and v11.1)
