I just gave it a try.... and I am not able to understand:

Exporting the whole collection in two packs (flagged) works...

As the "usual" export didn't work I give it another try with flagging all... if that works I try it once more without flag, if that doesn't work like before, then the flags change anything... something I might not be able to understand

Okay, with flagging all the export doesn't work.... Could anybody explain me why it works in two parts but not in one???

The most confusing side effect: The complete export (of owned) didn't work, but the popup "All selected information has been exported." still remains (alltough it didn't export and the xml has a Zero size)

@GSyren:
Just coming up my mind one possible "problem" with the BY-Control (Production Year - Birthyear)

Any idea how to handle Multi-Movie-Discs? In this case the Production Year always is the one of oldest movie and this way - at least in theory - some cast & crew with "wrong" BY could fall out.

@hydr0x:
I can't remember all the stuff I tried with several support. And like mentioned before: After spending several weeks (I'd like to say at least two months) to try anything possible (don't remember if your idea also was part of all the tries) but no change at all, anytime I reached the point to quit.
I got no problems trying this and that, but after covering side effects (database crash, un- and re-install etc.) with additional effort of time I lost the interest. When I had my own site in the past, I needed the export for the homepage. But as long as I don't have any neccessity for an export, for me it feels like wasted time. Sorry!

And I'm convinced that it's something else. Those characters appear in so many profiles that it would have been discovered long ago if they caused problems of this nature. But the only known problem is that they display incorrectly.

The only chance to find out at least the first profile which causes troubles is to export every single one and check if it works. But with 28.000 profiles this is an unimaginable work.

My database is constantly and regulary repaired/cleaned up, so all data still is fine - except the export. And after trying nearly every idea of anybody what "it could be" without any change and spending weeks for that I gave up. Partially export works (DJDoena asked me to do it with just the F-Profiles), but to find out which profile IS the problem is timely much too intensive for me. Especially as I am quite busy these days with correction of all the wrong BYs in so far several hundred profiles. And I am only done with the actors up to "N".

"Nice", that export of my collection even doesn't work at your machine... More and more I am in believing that it might be all those special letters which are too much for the old Windows-Standard

This system/computer is 3 if not 4 years old. In such a long time a lot of "trash" hides anywhere. Nearly no Uninstall does it's job complete etc. Always a Windows problem... and I was used to re-built me whole system every couple of years. As I didn't since I bought this one, sooner or later I MUST - no matter if I like it or not. Sometimes this is the only "medicine"... and at least after that all is cleaned up and I might "forget" to install all the software I haven't used for years...
And it is definitely cheaper than buying the cheapest mini

But I'll wait some days - if anybody else has the same troubles after installation and can't see your smart tool ;-)

I disagree with the latter assertion.  I often find myself looking at the AFI film catalog as well.

Could be an alternative source, but how do you go on that way:
You are checking your profiles if the right BYs are used and you got one of the "Mark Miller". He is not part of the movie-profile on the AFI.

So how do you find out which one played in that movie? Or: If you add the wrong one, are you informed then and is this corrected by someone else or do they just believe in YOUR data?

We all (at least should) know that data from IMDB is not for use on profiler, but it is the only source to compare. I believe that a lot of you used to check data (e. g. BYs) on the IMDB.

So I am very curious what you do if you find out that there is missing data on IMDB or that BYs are wrong?

How I came to this question: For a couple of weeks meanwhile I am comparing all actors of the BY-List with my own collection and - sad bad true - had to find out that so many of them are wrong not only in my database, quite often in the profiles here on the Master-DB.
For local differences: This happens if you get a profile with a "John Smith" (w/o BY) but you only have a "John Smith (1899)" in your database. So there is no new actor created w/o Birthyear, but profiler uses the first available one. And that there are so many used wrong... well, some don't care about BY, or if a BY is accepted, the one who ordered it couldn't change every single profile with that actor. Using the wrong BY is another thing....

Okay, on my way through correcting meanwhile several hundred of my profiles, I consulted IMDB (waht else?). If data was missing, I did a screenshot, and if it was only one actor, I added him myself (always not knowing which one of the dozens of persons it is using the same name) and had to wait until their team of IMDB decides which one now is the correct one.

For several actors (so far I am only doing them, crew is the next step) our BY-List has a different year, most times +/- 1 - 2 years, always documented with Wiki or any other source. So I would like to know: If you find out that the data is wrong on IMDB, would it be too much work to correct it there, too? This is one simple idea to avoid work: If I see a different year in the BY-List as on IMDB, I have to open the thread to read and accept the explanation. We all know that IMDB has a lot of data but sometimes simply is not that trustworthy. But if the one who "ordered" the BY for our database would change/correct it on IMDB, too, it would avoid that I need to open the thread. Then the BY-List would be enough. And you can't imagine how much I had to read. I am on those corrections for 3 weeks meanwhile and have not done all "M"-actors yet! So every "additional" step costs more time.

Another question coming up my mind: Do we have something like "roundmail" in here? For one simple reason: If you don't follow the BY-List or -Thread periodically, you are missing changes. And this way a bunch of your data is possibly not correct anymore, missing BYs for some cast or crew. So imo kind of a roundmail (maybe only for the ones who are interested in and subscribe) which informs that from now on we have name "XYZ" new with BY(s) would make us checking. That's just an idea so far, but with every new BY for any cast or crew the number of differences between the databases becomes bigger.

I'm afraid I got some bad news: I can't get it started, even don't see it when profiler is open.

I followed the instructions step by step, installed the DVDPFauxAPI 1.4 - no prob.

As is was not totally sure how to interpretate this
create folder "SubPlugins" right next to the "Plugins"
I tried it two different ways: First I created the SubPlugins-Folder IN the Plugins-Folder and as I didn't see CCCreater in my Plugins, closed Profiler and created the SubPlugins on the same layer as Plugins. But none of those versions worked.

And no matter where the folder was, the CCCreator.dll is inside.

That means I can't do anything to satisfy my curiosity.... and as I know my kind of "luck" I am the only one with that problem?^^ I wouldn't wonder...

I am kid of speechless.... for me that's a wonderful and exciting start of the day! Wow!

So far I only got two questions, maybe missing in your explanation or I didn't understand: Is there created a new dummy profile whenever the tool is started to create 0-BYs? So e. g. 5 starts, 5 dummys?

All the possibilities of this tool look extraordinary great! But I am not able to understand, why the newly created cast & crew got headshots? Do you copy any actor/crew completely, only letting the BY field free? It is not bad but confusing: We have the same thing for several names in the Headshots Masterdatabase, where a name with BY has the same foto as without. And as this simply can't be the same person, leeting the headshot free would make more sence.

All in all I am not able to find the right words how thankful I am! And I am excited to "play" with that! Wow!

Wow! Correcting data sometimes is kind of a VERY horrible experience....

I just spent more than an hour to control all versions of "Robert Lee" - and had to find out that about 80 % of the entries in any profile are using the one with the wrong BY (dangerous business if there are 8 BYs available). So far this might have been the worst name to correct - but it always could become worse...^^

The actor for "Mr. Baseball" is definitely born 1952, but IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0497737/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 ) is definitely the wrong profile! They got something wrong as I won't believe that a man of that age worked as a stuntman older than 60. I try to correct the data there, too!
So meanwhile he has his own site on IMDB:
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm14784747/?ref_=fn_nm_nm_8
Only missing the BY, don't know why they didn't, but it might come up soon

Okay, to both of you:

Thanks for all the work and the time you invest in my project

And: Sorry if I come up with new wishes/requests. They're mostly caused by (bad) experiences with existing data or with the lack of functions on profiler itself. Sorry!

It's only the thought: When I am done correcting all the data, I try to avoid that any new profiles could deliver incorrect data, destroying the work of months

Now I am confused? You name the link CastCrewCheck and it leads to BirthYearCheck?

But as far as I understood the descriptions of the several versions/updates: Your tool compares the existing local data with Kluge's list, am I right?

As mentioned before: As the list is living and growing, I am quite sure, you include a copy of Kluge's list anywhere in the tool or is it anyhow "connected" with that site?
http://www.luigifilocamo.it/BY.html

But in both cases: That's not my "problem". A lot of users are not interested in separating people in the database by their accepted BYs or they don't care or maybe sometimes they don't have the time to control every single name of a complete TV Series, if it possibly needs a BY.

So this way countless profiles are actually missing the BY or have the wrong. That's what I am actually correcting. Sooner or later (easier said "later") all my profiles will have the correct BYs (and countless more I have to ask for acception when I am done). But then I buy a new DVD/BluRay and get the full data profile created by someone else. Without any BY. E. g. the casts lists an actor "John Abbott" w/o BY. So I start the tool on that new profile and it says: "Be careful, you allready have "John Abbott" WITH BY. Check, if this is the same!"

For me it looks that the BirthYearCheck compares the whole actors list of the local database with Kluge's list. I'd like to say that I am not the only one who has some more BYs not neccessary for everybody or not proved yet or whatever. And at least in that case, the tool can't tell me to control, if this cast/crew is the same as the one with the same name (and BY) allready part of my local database.

I only can hope that this was not too complicated to understand ;-)

Topic Replies: 168, Topic Views: 9838
Actually not sure if this "problem" ("idea") should be part of the BirthYearCheck or the Creator:

Since I started to check all the BYs of Kluge's list, whenever I add a new profile for what I recently bought, I check every single cast (so far only cast) with a BY if it is correct.
Allready the problem then is: If the actor would need a BY but the creator of the profile didn't know or didn't care (I heard some are not interested in BYs), then the tool should "say" something like:

BE CAREFUL! This cast (Name 1, Name 2, Name 3) and/or this crew (Name 4, Name 5 etc.) are allready available with BYs. A check is recommended!

Or something like this! That's much easier than to check only the ones with are allready with BY and includes the ones where the BY probably was not entered.

So the tool needs no reference to or integration of Kluge's list (that would be impossible as this list is living and still growing) but only needs to check cast & crew if the same name is available with BY.

In my case: Whenever one person of that name got a BY, I give all other versions one, too, mostly the Fakes, but that's the only way to see a difference of 5, 6, 7 or more persons of the same name. It would be a dream if the Fake-BYs become an official part of the BY-List... especially in case of sharing headshots
